French Hand-Tinted Photo Postcard Woman at Tea Table 1922
1 French Hand-Tinted Photo Postcard Woman at Tea Table 1922
France 1922 Very Good
Pretty in peach is this lovely young woman seated at a tea table alone -- or is she? Her expression may say otherwise! The details and the hand tinted dress, tea things, lamp and flowers add so much charm. This card was sent in the mail from Vianen, but is still quite lovely with no real wear. The divided back has a lengthy message and was sent to someone in Europe.

Coffeepots and Coffee Makers -- 1990, Edward Bramah
2 Edward Bramah Coffeepots and Coffee Makers -- 1990
Wigston, Leicester, England Magna Books 1990 1854221973 / 9781854221971 Card cover Ve4ry good condition
Fabulous! Not only are the coffeepots and coffee makers gorgeous, but they also show how our favorite small appliance began. The pictures are huge and in full color and there are also mall pictures of people enjoying the brew. The booklet is huge at 10-2/2" x 14" and has 66 pages. The last pcitures are from the late 1990's. There are no names or writing and binding is sound. The only faults are the corner creases to front cover. I glued the paper on the back of the cover, put them in the book press, and added small white Meto stickers to reenforce the crease.

China Tea Culture; China Stamps, No Author Stated
3 No Author Stated China Tea Culture; China Stamps
Shanghai, China Shanghai Posts Bureau 2000 Hard Cover in Box Fine in Fine Box No dustjacket as issued
Book is clean and without defect. It also retains its original box which is likewise pristine. The book is written in both Chinese and English, each page unfolding the elegant and graceful tea culture in both languages. The art is lovely and is seen on each page. But perhaps the most interesting are the Chinese postal stamps which echo the tea culture theme. They appear to be under plastic, but you can open them up and hold them and put them back. There are a total of eight. Book measures 7-1/2" x 10-1/2 with 24 pages. Book is easily put back into the box. Would make a very charming gift.

Old English Coffee Houses (1954), No Author Stated
4 No Author Stated Old English Coffee Houses (1954)
Emmaus, Pennsylvania The Rodale Press 1954 First Edition Stated Hard Cover Near Fine condition No Dustjacket
I love gift books and this one is attractive, interesting, and in beautiful condition. Coffee lovers will enjoy the story of the rise of the English coffee shop, despite the protest of "several thousands of buxom good-women, languishing in extremity of want." In 1674 they printed a broadside that read "The Womens' Petition Against Coffee Representing to Publick Consideration the Grand Inconveniences accruing to their SEX from the exclusive use of that drying, enfeebling LIQUOR " The mens' response is included. The book measures 5-1/2" x 8" with 32 pages. Illustrated with color art throughout. Crisp and clean with a band of toning to endpapers front and back -- otherwise pristine.

Tea and Curiosity: A Chinese Experience in 1973 (1977), Rankin, Clara Tamplin
5 Rankin, Clara Tamplin Tea and Curiosity: A Chinese Experience in 1973 (1977)
Chagrin, Ohio Privately publishing 1977 Hard cover Fine condition No jacket -- clear plastic cover Rankin, Alfred Marshall
Beautiful booklet in hard cover, gently cared for with no defects of note. The book tells the story of the author's 1973 trip to China. Her husband accompanied her and took the many gorgeous all color photographs. Mao was in frail health at that time and it was much more exotic to visit Communist China than it is to visit the country today. Book measures 5-2.4" x 8-3/4" and has 98 pages. It's also protected with a clear plastic jacket. SHIPS in the U.S. via media mail for $2.

6 Walkling, Gillian Tea Caddies: An Illustrated History (1985)
England Victoria and Albert Museum 1985 0905209540 / 9780905209548 First edition Card cover Near Fine condition
This is a lovely exhibition catalog, elegant with its dust jacket protecting the plain white card binding. A book about tea caddies? Yes!Tea is back in popularity with brand new leaves and brand new flavors to accompany both new and old pastries and more. The "more" of course is the implements of tea and its rituals. The plates of the tea caddies are in both color and black and white for a total of 64 specimens. The book is clean with no names or writing, no tears, and no spine creasing. The catalog measures 7-/.4" x 9-1/4". The only faults ares a shadow on the front cover from an old price sticker, another one at the lower back corner and a tiny black mark at the bottom of the spine. Altogether this is a beauty -- even the paper is wonderful.
