1 "A Scottish Evening" Derwentwater Print
Unknown Unknown Fine
I bought this pretty pastel print from a bookstore that went out of business some years ago, but I kept it thinking I would frame it. Seeing that that hasn't happened, however, the time has come ("the Walrus said)to talk of other things. I wish I could tell you who created it, but the artist failed to sign it. All I can see by holding a magnifying glass up to the tiny penciled writing under the image is the title, "A Scottish Evening", which depicts Derwentwater, a beautiful area you can visit online. The entire thing measures 6"x10", but the image which is set into the place designated for it (creates a mat) is 3"x5". The entire piece is crisp and clean with no damage. Perfect for a cozy little spot.

25 Asian Prints in Folder 1978 (All Portraits, Nine in Color)
2 25 Asian Prints in Folder 1978 (All Portraits, Nine in Color)
Asia Unknown 1978 Card folder Very Good
I have had these prints for years, but never listed them because the title is in Asian characters. I can't recall where I even got them, but they are quite handsome. There are supposed to be 16 black and white numbered prints, all portraits drawn with pencil, inside the folder and all are present. But here's the nice surprise -- nine other numbered prints in full color appear to have hitchhiked along. These apparently were at least a set of 10, but one is missing. Nine nice freebies aren't bad though! :-) The folder measures 7-1/2"x10-1/2" and is very clean, though toned. A previous owner also taped a short tear at top of spine. The prints are very white -- no foxing or toning. Paper is lightweight and one print shows a small rough area to top edge, but could still be framed with no problem. Overall an interesting set.

America 100 Years Ago: Old Views (1946, complete 32 prints in folder)
3 America 100 Years Ago: Old Views (1946, complete 32 prints in folder)
Buremberg Jacob Mendelsohn 1946 Card folder Very good
It's amazing that this item remained intact since it came out in 1946 and then was given as a Christmas gift in 1981. There is a small inscription on the reverse side of the front cover which reads, "From Konstanze, Christmas, 1981." Everything is clean and nice with just one small spot of foxing to two prints and a light freckling to the folder. The prints are on paper and measure 7-1/2" x 10". All are views of historic places -- Albany on the Hudson, Baltimore, Boston City Hall, Cleveland, Detroit, Galveston, Jefferson City -- Missouri River, Kansas, Louisville, Lockport, Ohio -- Erie Canal, New York -- Broadway, New York, New York City Hall, New York -- Park and City Hall, New York Staten Island, New York Bay, New York and Brooklyn, Philadelphia National Bank, Philadelphia Girard's Bank, Richmond, Virginia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Sacramento, St. Louis Court House, St. Charles -- Mississippi, Wheeling, West Virginia, Washignton General Post Office, Washington Patent Office, and Weston, Missouri.

Baker Lake Prints 1988 (Canadian Indigenous Art)
4 Baker Lake Prints 1988 (Canadian Indigenous Art)
Baker Lake, Ottawa, Canada Canadian Arctic Producers 1988 0920234879 / 9780920234877 Card cover Very good condition
This is an interesting booklet about Canadian indigenous art from the Baker Lake area of Ottawa. It began with the Sanavik co-operative which endeavored to create a print program. Unfortunately it didn't catch fire right away, so instead of producing huge numbers of art prints they decided to choose carefully and confine each to a limited edition of no more than 50 copies. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 39 pristine pages. The only fault is some light sunning to spine. There are real photographs of the area and its people, both black and white aand color art, and photos of the artists at work.

Botanical Print Joe-Lye Weed -- Eupatorium Purpureum
5 Botanical Print Joe-Lye Weed -- Eupatorium Purpureum
Unknown Unknown
This is a lovely print of unknown origin. I bought about ten that are all the same size and printed on the same paper, but none offers any real info. This one states the name of the plant as it's commonly known, as well as its Latin name, and shows the initials DFP and Plate 394. The cream paper is lightweight, but very clean, smooth and soft. Measures 8-1/2"x 11-1/2". Would be easy to frame without a custom order. It has not NOT been removed from a book.

Decorative Old Maps of the Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries (Six Fine Prints in Full Color 1940)
15 Decorative Old Maps of the Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries (Six Fine Prints in Full Color 1940)
New York City Penn Press circa 1940 Very good
I love when I can find a portfolio of prints and ALL the prints are in it. This is the fruit of a lucky day because here we have a giant portfolio measuring 20" across x 16" tall and all six maps are accounted for. The maps are very clean with no tears and are beautiful with the lavish color of the periods. The portfolio itself had a few small tears, all of which I have repaired with almost invisible, non-browning archival tape at back. The maps are as follows: The Map of the World by N.J. Visscher who portrayed California as an island (17th c.); Map of Europe by Mercator from the famous Mercator Hondius Atlat of 1633; Map of Asia by the Blaeu Family, 1662; the Holy Land by Abraham Ortelius from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first atlas, 1570; New Belgium, New England and Virginia by N.J. Visscher prior to the founding of Philadelphia; and Map of Canada by Guillaume P'Isle, the foremost French cartographer circa 1720. We will ship flat. DUE TO SIZE countries outside the U.S. will incur a higher shipping charge. Please contact us with destination for an exact quote. PRIORITY mail in the U.S. will likewise require additional postage, but economy mail remains at $2.00

Ethel Franklin Botts Fairy Print 1906
16 Ethel Franklin Botts Fairy Print 1906
Unknown 1906 Very good
This is a lovely print rendered by Ethel Franklin Botts, a student of the great Howard Pyle, as was Jessie Wilcox Smith. Her style is a bit different though with a hint of a collage look at times. She was very prolific and an important illustrator of the day. I don't know exactly what children's book this print derives from, but I do know that it's an illustration for a James Whitcomb Riley poem. The book was published in 1906. Clearly, this was a page of the book - I purchased it from a long time dealer who salvaged plates from disbound and damaged children'books. He was NOT a breaker. The print measures 6-1/2"x9-1/4" with the image measuring 5"x7-1/4". Would make a charming image for a little girl's room.

17 Ethel Franklin Botts Print 1906 (Children With Grandma)
Unknown 1906 Very Good
This is a lovely print which captures a sweet moment of children enjoying the treats brought by an old lady. It was rendered by Ethel Franklin Botts, a student of the great Howard Pyle, as was Jessie Wilcox Smith. Her style is a bit different though with a hint of a collage look at times. She was very prolific and an important illustrator of the day. I don't know exactly what children's book this print derives from, but I do know that it's an illustration for a James Whitcomb Riley poem. The book was published in 1906. The print measures 6-1/2"x9-1/4" with the image measuring 5"x7-1/4". There is a remnant of paper from another page at left margin, but will not appear after framing. Several different scenes from same book available.

18 Game Face Cleveland Indian Scorebook Magazine Commemorative Issue 1993; Tribute to Cleveland Stadium Official Souvenir Print October 2, 1993 (Cleveland Indians Baseball)
Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland Indians Baseball 1993 soft cover Very good
These items came together so I am leaving them together, as both are mementos of the last Cleveland Indians baseball season to be held at the old Cleveland Stadium. The magazine measures 8-1/2"x11" and still retains its unused scorecards for the final series at Cleveland Stadium. It's a glossy magazine with lots of photos and Cleveland baseball history. Magazine is clean and bright with just one tear to lower front corner which was repaired on reverse side with tape by former owner. The print measures 8"x11" also and shows likenesses of Andre Thornton, Mel Harder, Bob Feller and Lou Boudreau. The text reads "Tribute to Cleveland Stadium October 2, 1993." Nice package!

Gypsy Caravan Print Frank Brangwyn (1920's)
19 Gypsy Caravan Print Frank Brangwyn (1920's)
Unknown publisher Very Good Brangwyn, Frank
Beautiful watercolor print bursting with color and activity. I purchased it from a longtime dealer who saved plates from damage books. I had a hard time figuring out who the artist was though because he only printed the name on one print! But the style is so unique it was easy to see that the others were British artist, Frank Brangwyn's, work too. The print is tipped-in on the paper rather than being printed on it and measures in its entirety 9-1/2"x11-1/2". The image size is 6-3/4"x9". Plate is clean on both sides and ready to frame.

Indian Art Print Kamodi Ragini
20 Indian Art Print Kamodi Ragini
Unknown 1955
We have six prints from this series of which this is one numbered V. It clearly comes from a book, but the origin is unknown. The print has only the date 1955 penciled on the back. The caption beneath the image reads "Kamodi Ragini. Ahmadnagar, Deccan; now Lallgarh Palace, Bikaner, Rajasthan. About 1595." The image is beautiful and tipped-in which means you can lift it up from the page. Three of the corners appear damaged, but they are NOT -- the print shows the original as it is. The page itself measures 9"x12" and the image 7"x9"
