1 "The Incline Smile" Mt. Manitou Scenic Incline Car Color Postcard (Colorado)
Unknown 1910 Good
Love this one! A full color view of an early tourist ride in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The "incline car", as they called it, was built in 1907 to support the construction of a hydroelectric plant and its waterline. When that was done a Dr. Brumbach bought it as a tourist attraction. It was a steep 16 minute ride through the glories of the Colorado mountains. Sadly, it had to be abandoned after a rock slide in 1990. The card is clean and nice, but does show tiny spote of light edge wear and a small chip from the tip of the lower corner. The divided back has this message, "I am still in Colorado Springs. E.R." It was sent to Miss Clara Bergman, Concordia, Missouri. The card will arrive in a plastic sleeve

30 Postcards G. F. Castleden New Orleans Sketches (1924-1929)
3 30 Postcards G. F. Castleden New Orleans Sketches (1924-1929)
New Orlean, LA G.F. Castleden 1924-1929 Fine in Very Good Envelopes
These are a lovely find if you are enchanted by the architecture of New Orleans. I've never seen this many in one place ever, but I got them from the estate of a Castleden collector. Castleden was a British artist who emigrated to New Orleans and continued his career as an artist there. The cards were aimed at the tourist trade -- ten scenes for a quarter. Three of the original envelopes will accompany them, but the cards weren't in them, so I am uncertain which belong where. The scenes are Old World beautiful and include, but are not confined to, these subjects: Pirate Alley, the monastery of the Capuchian monks, the staircase of the old St. Louis Hotel, the courtyard of the old Spanish Arsenal, oyster schooners, the Spanish Gate of Cabildo, the Courtyard of the Little Theatre, and the Little Green Shutter Tea Room. None have been used and all are in excellent condition. The envelopes are a little worn, but not bad. The photo shows an array of cards, but not all -- there really are thirty!

13 Greetings From Chicago, Chicago Art Institute Black and White Postcard
Chicago, Illinois International Postal Card Company Fine
A beauty in black and white sent to our girl (I have MANY of her cards) Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota from Emil who says, "Thank you for the postal you sent me. With best wishes." Maybe Emil was in Chicago to visit the Art Institute which is pictured on the card and says this of itself, "Situated on Michigan Avenue at the head of Adams St. Contains many famous paintings and works of art." The card was not mailed and shows no date, but all the cards I have belonging to Sophie are from 1906 to 1914.

Boston, Mass. Bromley & Co. circa 1950's early 1960's) Near fine
Seven beautiful glossy, full color postcards showing the interior and exterior of the home of American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; a depiction of his sons, Charles and Ernest; and of his wife, the former Frances Elizabeth Appleton. The house was located at 105 Brattle Street, Cambridge Mass. and Longfellow lived in it from 1837 to 1882. The chairw as given to him as a gift on his 72nd birthday from the children of Cambridge because it was made of the chestnut wood made famous in his poem "The Village Blacksmith." The room with the fireplace was Longfellow's study. The other one with a table was the dining room, and the staircase is what he referred to as "the broad hall stair" in "The Children's Hour". The cards not used and show only faint toning to backs. All will arrive in plastic sleeves. A nice little gift for the right person.

Lake Deering Park Greetings From Portland, Maine
16 Lake Deering Park Greetings From Portland, Maine
Portland, Maine Hugh C. Leighton No Date Very Good
I think this is the prettiest card showing Deering Park in Portland, Maine I've ever seen. The white caption at the bottom left corner adds to the attractiveness. The card has not been used and is very crisp and clean with just a tiny wear spot at tip of both right corners and a small discoloration at back above stamp box. The stamp box at back is the clue that it's an older card, as it states, "One cent for United States and Island Possessions, Cuba, Canada and Mexico. Two Cents for Foreign."
