New York The Dancey-Davis Press 1923 soft cover Very Good
Very beautiful and scarce program published for the 1923-24 American season of this Russian musical comedy prduction. Oversized at 9-1/4"x12-1/4" and lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs and eye-popping color art. Nikita Balieff was considered the bad boy of the Russian stage which is why his performances were so lauded. Al Jolsen said of him, "I have been to three Tuesday matinees, and if you give another performance before breakfast, I shall be there too." 32 pages. Chicago Stagebill The Student Prince 1943
3 Chicago Stagebill The Student Prince 1943
Chicago Chicago Stagebill 1943 soft cover Very good condition
The Chicago Stagebill in the 40's is something of a replica of New York's Playbill. The names aren't glittering, but it certainly offered a lot of entertainment. Before the show there were 22 musical performances. The show itself, The Student Prince by Sigmund Romberg, was an operetta created from the book and lyrics of Dorothy Donnelly and directed by J.J. Shubert. It debuted at the Erlanger Theatre, Chicago. Program measures 6-3/4" x 9" and has 12 clean, nice pages.

Earl Carroll Theatre New York Program 1928 (W.C. Fields)
5 Earl Carroll Theatre New York Program 1928 (W.C. Fields)
New York City Earl Carroll Theatre 1928 soft cover Very good
It's relatively easier to find Earl Carroll ephemera from his California night club days than it is from his earlier NYC theatre. But here we have a program from his seventh Follies, this time featuring the famous W.C. Fields. The program has very nice ads and lot of photos of the performers including a large picture of Fields. What's also fun is a close-up article about Carroll's eccentricities, of which there were many! The program measures 9"x12" and has 25 pristine pages. Nice quality item, clean and tightly bound with just a tiny abrasion to front cover.

Judy Garland RKO Palace Theatre Program 1956
9 Judy Garland RKO Palace Theatre Program 1956
New York RKO Palace Theatre 1956 soft cover Very Good
Very nice clean program which is more leaflet than booklet, but not too often seen. It's not a play, more of a review with a number of different acts including the Amin Brothers, Paul Sydell, Joe Smith and Charlie Dale, Giselle and Francois Szony. Alan King (comedian), and primarily -- JUDY GARLAND! There's info about each act, but Judy takes center stage. Measures 6"x9" and is clean with no tears and no names. It was folded vertically at one time, but is totally flat now. Very nice.

Me and My Girl Souvenir Theater Brochure
11 Me and My Girl Souvenir Theater Brochure
New York Raydell Publishing circa 1986-89 Card cover Very good condition
Lots of color stills inside and a very attractive cover make this theater souvenir a nice addition to a collection, or the beginning of one. There is no date, but research shows that it opened originally in England during the 1930's and was revised in New York in the 80's. There is no theatre mentioned either, so it's likely that it accompanied a traveling show which including James Brennan and Sheri Cowart who played the leads on Broadway. The main booklet has a laid-in brochure which introduces the cast. The program measures 9" x 11-1/2" and is clean and tightly bound.

Playbill Album New York Theater Programs (1968-80's)
13 Playbill Album New York Theater Programs (1968-80's)
New York Playbill 1968-80's Very good condition Hard cover binder; soft cover programs Very good condition
I saw the word Playbill on the spine of the binder and had to have it, especially when I saw that the shows were older, from 1968 to the 80's. There are 14 programs in all, most of which are Playbills from the various New York City Broadway theaters, but there's also a couple from community theaters close by but outside the city, including Jones Beach. Some programs have ticket stubs stapled to them which is always a bonus. New York shows include The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie; Plaza Suite; 1776; Company; Sleuth; No, No Nanette; Annie; Peter Pan and more. Very nice find for a theater buff.

14 Playbill Ginger Rogers in Hello Dolly. St. James Theatre, 1965
New York Playbill Incorporated October, 1965 Volume II, Number 10 soft cover Very good condition
Ginger Rogers took on the Broadway role of Dolly Gallagher Levi in Janaury, 1964 and kept it until February 25, 1967 when Carol Channing took over. Did you know that the play was written by Thornton Wilder? I didn't. The program is nicely kept -- there's just a few little freckles to outer edge of front cover -- otherwise it's great. AND it hasn't been vertically creased as is so often the case. Program measures 6" x 9" and has 56 pages.

Singin' in the Rain Souvenir Book London Palladium 1983 Starring Tommy Steele
19 Singin' in the Rain Souvenir Book London Palladium 1983 Starring Tommy Steele
1983 soft cover Good-plus
An extravaganza of a souvenir book! Not only is it oversized at 9"x12" and filled with glorious stills from production numbers, but it also has a fold-out at the back which has four perforated postcards. Amazing that they're still intact, but they are. The program is marred only by spots of ege wear to the black cover and a small flat crease to the lower front corner. Very nice and a souvenir of the FIRST stage production ever.
