Cedar Point Amusement Park (Ohio) Tourists in the Arcade Real Photo Postcard
1 Cedar Point Amusement Park (Ohio) Tourists in the Arcade Real Photo Postcard
Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio Arcade Photo Co. Fine
Are we having fun yet? Every time I look at this card I have to laugh. Five tourists aboard a fake boat in the arcade at the site of Ohio's grand amusement park and not a smile in the bunch, including the two clutching teddy bears! Still, this is one of my all-time favorite real photos! It was never sent, there's no stamp, no writing and no edgewear. Photo was printed on AZO photographic paper.

Gragey and Mason Millinery Real Photo Postcard Storefront Women & Children
2 Gragey and Mason Millinery Real Photo Postcard Storefront Women & Children
Unknown Very good
This real photo postcard shows the storefront of a millinery shop the name of which appears on the outdoor valance at the top and also on both windows at front. Four women -- likely the milliners and their help and three children add interest. Unfortunately, the card was never mailed so we have no idea where this shop was located, but we CAN date it, as the stamp box shows that it was printed on AZO paper and the symbols show that it dates from 1910 to 1930. This is circa 1910. The divided back was printed upsidedown.

Hand-Tinted Real Photo Actress Gladys Cooper
3 Hand-Tinted Real Photo Actress Gladys Cooper
London Rotary Photo Unknown Very Good
A striking real photo postcard with a deft touch of hand-tinting. Has not been sent in the mail and is in lovely condition. The subject is named in the small print at the bottom of the reverse side which reads "This is a hand-painted real photograph of a British beauty, Miss Gladys Cooper."Sshe was an actress whose career spanned 70 years on stage, in films and on TV. She ultimately became Dame Gladys Cooper.

Navajo Mother and Papoose Real Photo Postcard
4 Navajo Mother and Papoose Real Photo Postcard
Mullarky Photo Fine
Very attractive real photo postcard of a Navajo mother and her papoose. Printed on AZO photographic paper the symbols of which in the stamp box show it to have been in use from 1924-1949. I believe the card is circa 1940, as it was inside a 1940 travel brochure. Beaneath the image is white captioning, but the wheel obliterates part of it, though there's enough to decipher Mullarky Photo. Photo has a light gloss and is unused.

Real Photo Postcard Boy Dressed as Railroad Conductor Taking Man's Ticket, Pittsburg, PA
5 Real Photo Postcard Boy Dressed as Railroad Conductor Taking Man's Ticket, Pittsburg, PA
Pittsburgh, PA AZO/Arcade Studios 1926-1940's Fine
This is a fun real photo postcard showing a man pretending to be a train passenger and a young boy dressed up like a conductor to take his ticket. Maybe a grandfather and grandson on an afternoon in Pittsburgh having some fun. I wish we could date it exactly, but it was never sent and has no writing on it at all. The only clue is the markings on the stamp box which indicates by the four squares in the corners that it's from 1926 to the 1940's. Big span, but a great image!

Real Photo Postcard Canton, Ohio Woman's Club
6 Real Photo Postcard Canton, Ohio Woman's Club
Canton, Ohio circa 1920 Good-plus
This real photo postcard shows the handsome house which served as the Canton Ohio Woman's Club. There is no printed writing designating it, but someone penciled it at the bottom margin. The card was printed on Artura paper as seen in the stamp box. Artura was a company which provided real photo postcards from 1908-1924. I think this photo may have been taken in 1920, the year the club was established. At any rate it brings the span of possibility down to 1920-24. Card is clean and nice with just one small light stain to unused back of card/ Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Cliff House and Seal Rocks, San Francisco (1940's)
7 Real Photo Postcard Cliff House and Seal Rocks, San Francisco (1940's)
Unknown Location EKC circa 1940's Fine condition
Very nice, clean postcard which has a glossy finish and a white margin. The back is not divided and there is no writing or stamping. The stamp box shows the logo of the EKC Company. The logo is one clue to the date, as are the cars and the history of the Cliff House. It opened originally in 1858 and then again in 1863, 1877, 1883, 1896 and 1937. Clearly this photo was taken after the 1937 renovation. The hotel perches over Ocean Beach, a site that claimed some 30 ships.Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Dressed up Couple Flapper with parasol, Tuxedo
8 Real Photo Postcard Dressed up Couple Flapper with parasol, Tuxedo
Unknown 1923 Good-plus
This is one of my favorite postcards of all time! Not only is the image fetching, but the guy in the photo wrote the message on the back of it -- "1923, I am the one with no hair. The little "Morgan" looks adorable." And indeed she does with her strappy shoes, bobbed hair, parasol and fringy outfit. He's pretty spiffy too though -- check out the monacle and the spats! Only detractor is isolated edge wear. Sepia toned.

Real Photo Postcard East High School Football Team, Cleveland, 1929 (Most players names on back)
9 Real Photo Postcard East High School Football Team, Cleveland, 1929 (Most players names on back)
Cleveland, Ohio Euclid Comt. Studio Inc. 1929 Good condition
This card isn't perfect -- there are flat creases to all corners, though all are lying flat. I normally would have passed it by, but this is the Cleveland East High School football team of 1929. But the back of the card is what really made me buy it -- most of the players are named and matched to numbers. Surnames include Harmony, Doad, Nardi, Anderson, Shannon, Samuelson, Bendokus, Coates, Sharkey, Storey, Gentile, Mahalic, Blikle, Hylinski, Rubin, Tomb, Balcombe, Tanske, Siathowski, Rashoski, Artale,Blimpie, Buchman, Landon, Hamilton, Swearington, Rytel and Bell. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve. The team was sponsored by Lucille Plankel Barber Shop and Beauty Shop.

10 Real Photo Postcard Greenwood's Lower Place, Newport, Ohio
U.S. AZO Unknown, late 1880's, early 1900 Very good condition
This is a glossy black and white real photo postcard that was never used -- no message, no postmark. The white writing on the front says Greenwood's Lower Place, Newport, Ohio. The interesting part is amidst all the greenery are six people and a cow! Card is clean and nice with just a tiny chip to tip of upper left corner. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Little Girl and Her Uncle
11 Real Photo Postcard Little Girl and Her Uncle
Wisconsin AZO paper 1913 Good condition
A lovely real photo post card dated 1913 on the back. The writer was the man in the photo and also the uncle of the cute little girl standing on the settee beside him. Her name was Hazel and he had this to say about her, "she is a little chatter box while we are here alone." The card was sent to Camp Douglas, Wisconsin. The stamp fell off the card at some point, but the box shows that it is a real photo printed on AZO paper with all four corner triangles pointing up. Card shows a superficial crease to left side which is not visible on the back, some minor edge wear and light residue from stamp. Card will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Men and a Bike Waiting Outside the Barber Shop (1904-18)
12 Real Photo Postcard Men and a Bike Waiting Outside the Barber Shop (1904-18)
Unknown Location AZO paper 1904-1918 Very good condition
This is a rather jaunty scene! Two men and a bicycle sit by the door while two others are enjoying the shade. I would not have guessed what type of business this was, but thanks to minute penciling to back, I spotted the words "barber shop." The card is clean and nice with just a little toning to back. No writing on it and printing is light. There's no white writing to front, but we know it's a real photo card thanks to the AZO paper. The four triangles standing straight up in each corner in the stamp box also tell us that the date span is from 1904-1918.

Real Photo Postcard Men in in Overcoats Posing Under Trellis
13 Real Photo Postcard Men in in Overcoats Posing Under Trellis
AZO Very Good
These two jaunty guys are dressed up for the camera in overcoats and hats. Likely posed at photography studio given backdrop of flower-twined trellis. The man standing has one hand on the seated one's shoulder and a cigarette in his free hand. The seated man is smiling, wearing a bow-tie, and has something clamped in his teeth. I thought it was a cigarette, but magnification shows that it's not, as it fans outward. No writing, no stamps, and no dates, but the symbols on the AZO marking on the stamp box date it from 1908 to 1914.

Real Photo Postcard Moon Camp Big Bear Lake, California
14 Real Photo Postcard Moon Camp Big Bear Lake, California
California AZO No date (1910-1930) Very Good condition
Very handsome real photo postcard showing one of the cabins -- Moon Camp -- at Big Bear Lake in California. The card shows no writing to divided back and was never sent in the mail, so no postmark to date it. The only clue is the stamp box which shows the configuration of corner icons as that of AZO which was used from 1910-1930. The photographer was Wright M. Lance. Card will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Newport High School Football Team
15 Real Photo Postcard Newport High School Football Team
Good
I puzzled over this one, as it does not say WHAT Newport Football High School team this is. I doubt greatly it's Rhode Island. In fact, given the barn in the background, and the fact that it came from an Ohio collection I would bet on Newport, Ohio. Check out the two guys with the Mohawks! Anyway, it's an interesting picture with a small crease to the lower left corner and spots of isolated edge wear. It was never sent in the mail and there is no message. It's printed on AZO photographic paper and the symbols on the stamp box date it from 1904-1918.

Real Photo Postcard Old Settlers Reunion Brunswick, Ohio August 13, 1910
16 Real Photo Postcard Old Settlers Reunion Brunswick, Ohio August 13, 1910
Brunswick, Ohio 1910 Very Good
Very handsome group shot of the members of the Old Settlers, which was most likely comprised of the descendants of the early pioneers who settled in Brunswick, Medina County, Ohio. The printing on the card shows the date August 13, 1910. They appear to be grouped in front of a church with everyone decked out in their finery. Especially charming are the little girls in the front row at the far right. The card is in very good condition save a gray stain to reverse side of divided back.

Real Photo Postcard People on a Hay Wagon (Ohio)
17 Real Photo Postcard People on a Hay Wagon (Ohio)
Marietta, Ohio M.P. Fischer Studio 1906 Very Good
Twenty people on a hay wagon and the poor horse get short-shrift, but what a fun real photo postcard. It was even taken by a photography studio. On the space provided beneath the image the sender wrote, Hello, Sister! How does this look? Sadie." When you flip the card over you find THREE postmarks -- the original comes from Gracey, Ohio followed by Caldwell, Ohio and finally to it's destination in Chandlersville, Ohio. The recipient was Mary Mason. Oh, and look closely -- Sadie put a small "x" on her dress so you can find her!

18 Real Photo Postcard Pleasants County School-Teacher's Institute Class St. Mary's West Virginia 1909
St. Mary's West Virginia Pleasants County School-Teacher's Institute St. Mary's West Virginia 1909 Good-plus
Card appears to be a class picture of the students, all young adults, the girls with Gibson Girl hair-dos and the boys in suits and hats. But my favorite is the guy sitting on the sill of the open window with his legs dangling down the building. All information was provided by the white lettering at bottom of card. The card was not used and there is no writing on the divided back. Will arrive in plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Pretty Girl Clutching Roses Postales Antiguas
19 Real Photo Postcard Pretty Girl Clutching Roses Postales Antiguas
Madrid Postales Antiguas Unknown early 20th Century Very good
This real photo postcard is especially lovely. It's unused both postally and for a message, and is a real photo of a lovely young woman holding roses to her face. The surface is shiny so the flowers in the corners seem to sparkle. The image is encased in an oval "frame". The reverse side shows a triangular logo in the area where the stamp would be indicating that the origin is NBC, a company which produced real photo cards. Only faults is a small bit of wear to top left corner. Will arrive in plastic sleeve.

Real Photo Postcard Smiling Group Young Man with Two Dolls
20 Real Photo Postcard Smiling Group Young Man with Two Dolls
AZO Very Good
This is a most interesting group of people. Every one of them is SMILING which was not too common. The older woman in the white blouse has her arms around the two people next to her and the young girl next to the guy with the dolls is looking across at the older woman. If I were to guess I'd say the lady to the far right is Grandma, the older woman in the white blouse is her daughter and the two young adults are the daughter's kids. Note that both "kids" have their legs stretched out in front of them. The young man is wearing a hat and for some reason is laughing and holding two odd dolls. The other mystery is the date because AZO's name with four triangles facing up in the corners of the postage box indicates that the date is unknown.
