1 "A Fares" of a Cleveland Cabby by A Real Cab Driver (1997)
Parma, Ohio Thomas J. Jasany 1997 soft cover Very good condition
When this booklet came out on the market its author was a bit of a celebrity. It's very simply made, but it's wild and woolly with stories of daily life in the big city broken down into small vignettes -- 70 in all. They're funny, poignant and and at times risque. Plus there's a list of the cabby's 25 places to go in Cleveland and most of them are still there! Booklet measures 8-1/2"x11" with 81 pages

2 "The Incline Smile" Mt. Manitou Scenic Incline Car Color Postcard (Colorado)
Unknown 1910 Good
Love this one! A full color view of an early tourist ride in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The "incline car", as they called it, was built in 1907 to support the construction of a hydroelectric plant and its waterline. When that was done a Dr. Brumbach bought it as a tourist attraction. It was a steep 16 minute ride through the glories of the Colorado mountains. Sadly, it had to be abandoned after a rock slide in 1990. The card is clean and nice, but does show tiny spote of light edge wear and a small chip from the tip of the lower corner. The divided back has this message, "I am still in Colorado Springs. E.R." It was sent to Miss Clara Bergman, Concordia, Missouri. The card will arrive in a plastic sleeve

1971 Steam Passenger Service Directory Sixth Annual (Additional Ephemera Laid-in)
3 1971 Steam Passenger Service Directory Sixth Annual (Additional Ephemera Laid-in)
New York Empire State Railway Museum Inc. 1971 Sixth annual soft cover All items very good
This is an interesting combination of items, all in one from a previous collector. The 6th Annual Steam Passenger Service Directory of 1971 was stuffed with numerous newspaper stories about trains, primarily from the Toledo, Ohio area during the 70's. These did cause some toning to the reverse side of cover, both front and back, but I have sequestered them now in a plastic bag in which they will arrive. Also accompanying the directory are a brochure, a business card and an unused ticket, all from the Toledo Lake Erie and Western Railway, Inc. The directory measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and has 128 page , all of which contain a black and white photograph, plus info on each train.

1972 Cadillac Owner's Manual in Original Plastic Case (With Emissions Booklet)
4 1972 Cadillac Owner's Manual in Original Plastic Case (With Emissions Booklet)
Detroit. Michigan Cadillac Motors 1972 soft cover Good 1
If you're restoring an old car there's nothing like the original manual to tuck into the glove compartment. Here we have not only the manual, but also the accompanying booklet about the car's emission control systems and their required maintenance and warranty information. Both measure 5" tall by 8" long and fit into their original blue plastic holder. The owner's manual shows some rubbing to blue cover and a small stain to side of text block which can be seen on the very edge of some pages inside. The emissions book is quite good with a light ring stain from a glass at back. Overall, both are still quite respectable. Manual has 84 pages and is illustrated with black and white photos, charts, and drawings. The emissions booklet has 15 pages and is illustrated with drawings.

11 Auto-Lite Spark Plugs Johnnie Plug-Chek Toledo,Ohio 1940's
Toledo, Ohio Auto-Lite Spark Plugs mid-1940's Very Good
Fun advertising item from the Auto-Lite Spark Plug Company of Toledo, Ohio. Not only was it useful, but its message came from its own little character, Johnnie Plug-Chek, who was somewhat iconic in his day. The plug chek pulls out at both ends with addition info. when closed it measures 3" wide and 7-1/2" long, but when fully extended measures 11-1/2". What's really cool is the fact that it retains its original envelope. There's no date, but the clue that helps date it is this statement: "Recommended setting for passenger cars to 1946 inclusive."

14 B&O Railroad Miniature Metal Sign and Three B&O Color Postcards
Earlton, New York; Washington Audio-Visual Designs & Washington Chapter NRHS 1967 All In fine Condition
This is a unique offering -- a small 3" diameter metal sign for the B&O Railroad, offered in the 1950's as a premium for Post cereals. The collector who owned it paired it with three color postcards, one of which is dated 1967. None have been used or written on and all are in excellent condition. The dated one was published by Washington Chapter NRHS and shows a President Class 4-6-2 pulling the B&O's Ambassador past Ivy City as it leaves Union Station Washington, D.C. Dec. 16, 1951. Bicycle Certificate and Warranty Oxford Manufacturing Company 1895
16 Bicycle Certificate and Warranty Oxford Manufacturing Company 1895
Chicago Oxford Manufacturing Company 1895 Good-plus
At the time this manufacturer's certificate and warranty was extended in 1895 bicycles were all the rage. The warranty was good for a year from the date stated, October 14, 1895. Here's what is promises: " This is to certify that the Oxford Bicycle No. 1113 is warranted to be free from defective materials or workmanship, and we will make good any defects found, free of charge, when such part or parts are returned to us (all charges prepaid) for examination. The guarantee does not apply to damage resulting from accident, rough usage, or neglect." It also mentions that the Morgan and Wright's Pneumatic Tires which were used on the bikes were guaranteed by Morgan and Wright. The certificate/warranty measures 7-3/4" x 9" and is very readable with no tears. There are a few spots of foxing, but very minor. It had also been folded, but I ironed it and flattened it in the book press.

Stunning catalog filled with vintage cars which were the finest of their time and remain so today. Every page is in color printed on quality coated paper. Chevrolet For 1942
18 Chevrolet For 1942
Detroit, Michigan Chevrolet Division of General Motors 1942 soft cover Good condition
Wow! What a great cover. But pretty though it is the date tells the story. WWII began in 1939 and would not end until 1945. Given such hard times -- food was rationed, as was gasoline, the country needed metal, gold, rubber and also other commodities for the war effort. America asked its citizens to help with money by buying Victory bonds. The catalog is really cool though -- it measures 5-1.2" tall and 12-1.4" across. Be sure to see the last photo which shows the engine. Catalog is clean and bright with no the features offered in the chassis. There's a tiny bit of edge wear at random spots to front cover and a crease to front cover which I have flattened with an iron.

19 Chinese Travel Ephemera: Quantude Restaurant Advertising, Boarding Card, Shanghai Antique & Curio Store
China Quanjude Group; /China International Travel Service 2004 Card cover Fine condition for all
I just found this array of fun things in a travel collection I bought a couple years ago. Everything was in the envelope with the restaurant advertising. The envelope, the card, and business card came from the China Quanjude Group which introduced the roast duck seen in the photo in 1864, during the third year of Tongzhi, Quing Dynasty. There's also a Boarding Card from the China International Travel Service, a small advertising card which lists the Chinese Dyanasties and the items which can be bought at the store, and lastly, two very attractive Chinese characters on beautiful paper. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

20 Compagnie Generale Transatlantique French Line "Liberte"
Paris French Line 1950's soft cover Very good

It had previously been the Europa, but was bought due to its high speed turbine engine for service to the French Line. However, two disasters -- breaking away from her moorings and crashing into a wrecked ship and later a fire caused a delay of five years -- but when Liberte finally made her debut she wowed them!
