1 "A Fares" of a Cleveland Cabby by A Real Cab Driver (1997)
Parma, Ohio Thomas J. Jasany 1997 soft cover Very good condition
When this booklet came out on the market its author was a bit of a celebrity. It's very simply made, but it's wild and woolly with stories of daily life in the big city broken down into small vignettes -- 70 in all. They're funny, poignant and and at times risque. Plus there's a list of the cabby's 25 places to go in Cleveland and most of them are still there! Booklet measures 8-1/2"x11" with 81 pages

2 Albert W. Smith Educator, Chemist and Engineer (Case Western Reserve University)
Cleveland, Ohio Case Western Reserve University Unknown Date Card cover Near fine
This is one of the most elegant booklets I've ever seen. The cover is made of substantial cardstock with raised letters at front, acetate endpapers both front and back, quality coated paper, and excellent black and white historic photographs, plus facsimiles of documents. The subject, Albert W. Smith, was part of small coterie of scientists who worked to found the profession of Chemical Engineering and in doing so put Case Institute of Technology as it as called then, on the educational map.The booklet measures 8-1/2"x11" and has 39 pages.

4 Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine (September 1984 Jackie Collins. David Letterman, Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, Barbara Walters)
Interview Enterprises Inc. 1984 Volume XIV No. 9 soft cover Good-plus
Andy Warhols' magazines are so much fun to read. I love when some come my way and right now I have several. This one features Joan Collins, but there's also interviews with many celebrities with an emphasis on TV personalities including David Letterman, Tom Brakow, Peter Jennings and Barbara Walters. Huge magazine -- measures 11"x17". The text is clean as is the cover, though spine area and back cover do show some browning. There were also a few small tears at top and a circular tear at bottom. Both were repaired by me with archival tape. The lower one still suffers from a small paper loss. Will ship in U.S. for $2. WORLDWIDE ORDERS WELCOME, but due to size additional postage will be necessary. Please contact us with destination for an exact quote. Magazine is thicker than normal with 224 pages. Price lowered due to condition.

What a surprise find this morning! Nine years ago I bought several full years of the newsletters of the Beatrix Potter Society and four booklets like this one filled with papers presented at the Society's Beatrix Potter Lake District Study Conference. All of it is long gone, but somehow this little straggler landed with a bunch of unrelated items. The booklet's articles re these: Lake District Natural History and Beatrix Potter; The Beatrix Potter Collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia; Collecting Beatrix Potter; Beatrix Potter Piracies and Sequels; and Bertram Potter and the Scottish Borders. Booklet is very clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. Measure 7-1/2" x 8" and has 52 pages.

Catholic Funeral Memorial Book Unused in Original Box
8 Catholic Funeral Memorial Book Unused in Original Box
Independence Funeral Home Vodargka Funeral Home No date Hard cover Fine condition in Very Good Box
Very pretty cover and two more paintings inside. The book has not been used and is very nice in its original white box. The book is without defect and the box nearly so. There are a couple small white spots on the white background which I almost missed. Otherwise it's a clean, sturdy box. The book measures 7-1/2" x 10" and is clean and bright inside and out. The binding is that of a ring binder that we used to take to school. The book has spaces for name, date and place of birth, age, and date of death. There's also room for photos, funeral notes, the names of officiants, music, the rituals at the cemetery, plus a page for a list of family and friends, floral offerings, comments from the bereaved, life memories, obituaries and more. Chautauqua Summer Center For Music and Drama Season Program 1942 (Plus Related Ephemera)
9 Chautauqua Summer Center For Music and Drama Season Program 1942 (Plus Related Ephemera)
Chautauqua, New York Chautauqua Institution June, 1942 Vol. 7 No. 117 soft cover Very Good
Very nice clean program which shows the schedule for the entire summer of music and theatre at Chautauqua during the summer of 1942, as well as articles and photographs of the performers. Measures 8-1/2"x 11-1/4" and has 32 pages. There is a vertical crease down the center from having been folded, as so many programs were, but the crease is light. What's interesting about this particular one is the stuff I found inside. The previous owner was a young woman, Elizabeth Lorson, from Wooster, Ohio who was in New York City hoping to be taken on by a voice trainer of merit. Someone from back home wrote the following Western Union telegram (includes envelope) to her which was sent to the Parnassus Club in 1941. It reads, "Fear not about missing the boat. Most likely overcrowded. Anyway advise trying man Genevieve works with Sidney Dietch. His approach remotely like Griffith. Feel winter in New York with right teacher most valuable. You can always come home to me if conditions unhappy. Will write very soon. Lovingly, Eve." Dietch was one of the very finest in the city. Also, included is a postcard stating that the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra would be broadcasted on the radio August 10th, 1941. The message on the reverse is written by the young lady seeking a voice teacher. It reads "Just got mother's letter telling me May is probably coming. Will sure be glad to see who ever comes. Don't suppose you'd get this before Saturday. Will write soon. Love, Betty." She apparently was part of the music program at Chautauqua in 1941. The final item is a photo of an opera singer named Helen Jepson previously from Akron, Ohio, clipped from an unknown source. Wooster is close enough to Akron to have inspired Betty! (Elizbeth)

Der Reggeboge The Rainbow; Journal of the Pennsylvania German Society 1988 (Friedrich Krebs)
10 Der Reggeboge The Rainbow; Journal of the Pennsylvania German Society 1988 (Friedrich Krebs)
Birdsboro, Pennylvania The Pennsylvania German Society 1988 Volume 22/1988/2 soft cover Very good
Very nice clean magazine with just some light toning to spine. Tightly bound and no names or writing. This is a good issue because it's devoted to Friedrick Krebs, a well-known fraktur artist who rendered many fancy certificates and the like, but also turned his hand to broadsides. There are many black and white images of his work throughout, as well as a lengthy text. But the unexpected bonus is a small color card bound-in created for an exhibition of his work at the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Center in Williamsburg Virginia in September, 1988. Magazine measures 8"x9" and has 39 pages. There is a mailing label on the back cover.

European Travel Diary 1928 (Young Woman From Rapdids City, Michigan)
11 European Travel Diary 1928 (Young Woman From Rapdids City, Michigan)
Grand Rapids, Michigan Handwritten 1928 Hard cover Very good condition
I love diaries, journals, ledgers and handmade books which capture a period of a person's life. This young woman, Kathleen Millington from Michigan, sailed to Europe aboard the Athenia, a Cunard Line ship, in 1928. The diary itself was made for this purpose and offers over 20 pages of printed information about sea faring, the colors of the ocean, the sounding machine, fog and fog signals, and much more. It was enough to inspire Kathleen to keep a log. I counted 43 continuous pages written by her from start to finish, but there are quite a few blanks too, which is common. Here's a random comment, "Went looking for steins -- steins apparently are as scarce in Heidelburg as pretzels were in Cologne. I wonder if they really do have spaghetti in Italy." And another, "Cold is miserable so had a doctor (in Cologne) -- jolly fun misunderstanding each other with the help of an interpreter. Pills, salve, feather ticks and cognac!" Diary measures 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" with a working clasp, gilt edges and the original pencil.

London, England Society of Genealogists Enterprises Ltd. 2003 Volume 27, Number 10 card cover Very Good Condition

Guy Lombardo And His Royal Canadians Booklet (SIGNED by Lombardo & Band Members, 1950's)
15 Guy Lombardo And His Royal Canadians Booklet (SIGNED by Lombardo & Band Members, 1950's)
Hollywood, California Popular Programs circa 1950's Card cover Good condition
I almost passed this one by because of the inked name on the front cover and the wear along the spine. But I opened it anyway and there was Guy Lombardo's signature! From there it got even better -- I found four more signatures from band members -- Bill Flanagan, guitarist and vocalist; Kenny Gardner, vocalist; Cliff Grass, saxman and clarinetist; Victor Lombardo, youngest brother (saxaphonist); and a name I can't decipher. It's next to Lebert Lombardo, but it's a conundrum because the first name seems to be Lebert, but the last name looks like it ends with "t." Booklet is lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs and provides much information about Guy Lombardo and his family and band. As stated, the booklet has some issues, but it's still tightly bound and clean and of course the signatures are historic.

Jasper Johns Process and Printmaking 1998 (Very cool thing on back!)
16 Jasper Johns Process and Printmaking 1998 (Very cool thing on back!)
New York The Museum of Modern Art 1996 soft cover Very Good
I like this little booklet very much, but was thrilled when I got it home and saw the back cover which contains a lengthy note from the previous owner. I love how she/he read Jasper Johns and came away with ideas for creating original art too. The note reads, "Maybe 14"x21. Start a book a la Jasper Johns -- in place of a journal. Draw, paint what I feel as a means of getting myself back again -- call it reclamation. Consult Julia re size of paper for binding later. Keep it very SIMPLE -- use symbols! Get down inside deep. Could use scanner, copier, computer etc. -- collage!" How fabulous that the passion of that moment was caught ON the very thing which inspired it! The booklet is great in itself with sequential color photos and 14 pages of text. Maybe it will inspire another seeking artist. NEW ENTRY -- I just found a magazine spread with color photos of Jasper Johns. Buyer of this booklet gets that too!
