A Happy New Year Bird Series Postcard Large Red Bird in Pine Boughs 1910
1 A Happy New Year Bird Series Postcard Large Red Bird in Pine Boughs 1910
Unknown 1910 Very good
The greeting, A Happy New Year, is hiding in the pine boughts in the lower left hand corner, so is easy to miss. But what a handsome card this is! It's gilded and embossed with a bold image superimposed over a small winter vignette. Lovely! This card was sent to a Mrs. C. Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. The message reads, "Dear friend, Your card received. Thanks. It is a fine ? you have. Wish I could visit you sometime. Let us send cards once in a while. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. M.A." Card shows a little corner wear at the top, but is otherwise clean and nice.

A Happy New Year Girl with Clock Postcard 1906-08 Raphael Tucks & Sons
2 A Happy New Year Girl with Clock Postcard 1906-08 Raphael Tucks & Sons
Raphael Tucks & Sons 1906-08 Very Good
There's much to like about a Tucks postcard and this one is no exception woth its heavy embossing, especially on the clock, and it's decorative border and gilding. The one shows very little wear. The last digit of the postmark date is obscured, but I think it's either a six or an eight. The message just says From Mabel, but it sas written to Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. I seem to have a lot of Spophie's cards!

This is a beautiful embossed card with metallic silver details all over it which don't show up in the picture. They're literally everywhere! The card has a divided back and is partially addressed, but was never sent. It appears to be from the early 1900's. The recipient was supposed to have been Mrs. Ambrose Balmat and the message reads, "A Merry Christmas to you all from your brother Louie." This one's a beauty!

Christmas Postcard A Christmas Reverie Santa with Pipe and Smoke 1908
6 Christmas Postcard A Christmas Reverie Santa with Pipe and Smoke 1908
1908 Very good
An ornate design with a shiny gold background and embossing make this one a standout. There is a slight postmark to the front, so the price has been adjusted for same, but it's still a beauty with just a little corner wear! Note the kids in the whirl of smoke from Santa's pipe. There's no indication of origin, but there is a printed notation on the back that says St. Nicholas Series No. 3. The message on the divided back reads "How did you find everybody in Logansport? Am going to Niad (?) this afternoon and wish you could be there too. That candy was just fine. Mary." The card is addressed to Clara McGlorie of Logansport, Indiana and postmarked 1908.

Easter Greeting Bonnet Girl in Church Lilies
7 Easter Greeting Bonnet Girl in Church Lilies
Unknown Unknown Very good
A charming old-fashioned scene of a young girl in her Sunday best on Easter morning, perhaps wearing a brand new Easter bonnet. She carries a Bible or prayer book and is surrounded by lilies. The card is addressed to Sophie Nundahl School No. 3, but was never sent. Because we have many of Sophie's cards I know she lived in North Dakota. The penciled message reads, "Thanks for the postal. How are you? I am alright, only got a soar (sic) throat. Mabel."

10 Embossed German Postcard Merry Xmas Holly Little Girl Red Coat & Muff
F. Beuthien 1909 Very Good
A pretty embossed German postcard wishes A Merry Xmas to You. Red coats and white fur muffs seems to have been all the rage for little girls at Christmas at the turn of the century -- but what a charming image it makes. This card is still crisp and was not postally used. It's addressed to a Miss Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota and the small message on the divided back read "With best wishes for a Merry Christmas From Eddie."

Embossed German Thanksgiving Postcard -- Turkey & Flowers
11 Embossed German Thanksgiving Postcard -- Turkey & Flowers
Germany 1916 Very Good
German postcards of the early 19th century are a thing of beauty, many such as this one, show heavily embossed and colorful designs. This Thanksgiving card is beautifully preserved -- the paper is even crisp -- and will arrive in a plastic sleeve. It was not postally used, but as you can see, it does have a penciled message which reads, "Nov, 29, 1916, Dear Friend, Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving Day, Yours, "A". It was addressed to Miss Sophie Nundahl, Rutland, North Dakota.

Fourth of July Postcard Girl Holding Fireworks (Series No. 3)
12 Fourth of July Postcard Girl Holding Fireworks (Series No. 3)
Near Fine
I love this card -- I've seen it with a gold background, but never silver until this one came along. The young woman holding the fireworks looks like a Gibson girl. The card is embossed, though lightly, has a divided back, and has never been written on, or sent in the mail. It's in excellent condition -- near fine -- and derives from the first decade of the 20th century, though is not dated. It will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

13 German Embossed Postcard Merry Christmas Girl in Red Coat & Muff by Fence
Germany 1908 Very good
All dressed up for Christmas in a red coat, a fur-trimmed hat, and a muff. This card is German and is embossed which is why the penciled message on the back is virtually unreadable. It was sent, however, to Miss Sophie Nundahl of Perry, North Dakota. The date on the postage stamp is likewise obscured, but it appears to be 1908. Card will arrive in a plastic sleeve.

Have A Little Pity On My Poor Heart Valentine Postcard
14 Have A Little Pity On My Poor Heart Valentine Postcard
Unknown Unknown Near Fine
Very, clean, nice card not sent in the mail, but with a message on the divided back which reads "From your friend, Guess Who?" and was addressed to Sophie Nundahl, Perry North Dakota School No. 3. As you can see form the photo, the sender crossed out the stamp box and added some symbols whoch I cannot decipher. An unusual design on this one! No date, but likely in the 19-teens, as we have many cards sent to Sophie Nundahl.

Tinted French postcards are exquisite and this one is especially charming for Easter. St. Patrick's Day Souvenir Postcard Crossed Pipes
18 St. Patrick's Day Souvenir Postcard Crossed Pipes

Crossed pipes and a pretty bucolic scene of the Emerald Isle strikes just the right note for a St. Patrick's Day greeting. The gilt letters at the bottom front read "St.Patrick's Day Souvenir." The card has been postally used and was sent from Bellevue, Ohio from what looks like George Webster to Miss Bertha Randall of Medina, Ohio. The message reads, "Friend Bertha, Did you arrive home all ok? I am home visiting for a few days. Write. Your friend, George Webster"

To My Heart's Elect Cupid Flying on a Key Blue Foral Wreath 1910 Medina, Seville, Ohio
20 To My Heart's Elect Cupid Flying on a Key Blue Foral Wreath 1910 Medina, Seville, Ohio
New York & Berlin International Art Publishing Company 1910 Very good
Very pretty card in pastels and very imaginative too. The card is embossed and clean and attractive. It was sent Feb. 11th, 1910 to Bertha Randall, Medina Ohio from her cousin who lived in next-door Seville. The message, written in pencil, reads, "Dear Cousin, Will be there with bells on. Will get there about 4:10 or 4:20. Mabel." This is an interesting message for two reasons. One is the slangy "be there with bells on", a comment which remains part of the vernacular today. The other reason is the specific times quoted. Mabel must have been taking the interurban from Seville, Ohio to Medina, Ohio
