Catholic Funeral Memorial Book Unused in Original Box
9 Catholic Funeral Memorial Book Unused in Original Box
Independence Funeral Home Vodargka Funeral Home No date Hard cover Fine condition in Very Good Box
Very pretty cover and two more paintings inside. The book has not been used and is very nice in its original white box. The book is without defect and the box nearly so. There are a couple small white spots on the white background which I almost missed. Otherwise it's a clean, sturdy box. The book measures 7-1/2" x 10" and is clean and bright inside and out. The binding is that of a ring binder that we used to take to school. The book has spaces for name, date and place of birth, age, and date of death. There's also room for photos, funeral notes, the names of officiants, music, the rituals at the cemetery, plus a page for a list of family and friends, floral offerings, comments from the bereaved, life memories, obituaries and more. VERY nice.

10 Centenary St. Stephen's Parish 1843-1943 (Philadelphia)
Phildelphia, PA St. Stephen's Church 1943 soft cover Good
Clean tightly bound centenary celebration keepsake. Brown wraps feel very supple and are marred only by small tears to the yapped edges which is very common due to the fact that the edges extend beyond the text. Corners also show flat creasing, but have been strengthened by me at back with mending tissue to keep them from snapping off (see photo). There are no names or writing. Printed on quality coated paper and illustrated profusely throughout with black and white photographs. Also includes an extensive text. Not commonly found. Measures 8"x11" and has 192 pages. 11 Chapelle Du Rosaire of the Dominican Nuns of Vence
Vence, France No publisher stated 1996 Card cover Fine condition
Not long ago I saw a documentary about the beautiful windows designed by Matisse for the chapel of a nunnery in France. So when I saw this booklet about it I had to have it. Matisse considered this project his master work and indeed it is. The booklet is gorgeous, printed on quality coated paper with bright, beautiful photography accompanied by description. It measures 7-1/4" x 10" and is as new. I doubt it was ever read. Would make a lovely gift.

12 Chesterfield Lives! Our First One Hundred Years 1886-1986 (Indiana Spiritualist Camp)
Chesterfield, Indiana Camp Chesterfield 1986 soft cover Very Good
Very nice, clean booklet -- rather hard to find. No names or writing, no spine crease. Poem about the Camp by Wanda Day laid-in. Illustrated with historic photographs throughout. Measures 6"x9" and shows only light toning at cover edges and to edges of laid-in poem. The Camp began through the efforts of Dr. J.W. Westerfield and his wife Mary and was established much like its New York counterpart, Lilydale. Includes list at back of invited mediums and guest speakers throughout the years. A fascinating look at one camp and how it reflected the exponential popularity and growth of Spiritualism, which found its roots in both the Society of Friends and the Shakers. 95 pages.

Choice Songs From Crowning Glory (Hymnal, 1893)
13 Choice Songs From Crowning Glory (Hymnal, 1893)
Chicago Billhorn Brothers 1893 Hard cover Good condition
This is a slim hymnal of 104 songs. It was owned by Mrs. Ellen C. Hammett who declared it her book on front free endpaper with a simple penciled name and date of 1894. The book is lacking a few pieces of overlay paper primarily along outer edge of front cover. There are also a few toned areas on front endpaper. The pages are otherwise very clean and binding is tight. The ones I recognized are Bringing In the Sheaves, Rock of Ages, and Nearer My God to Thee. Book measures 5-1/2" x 8"

Daily Food for Christians 1910 (Miniature Book)
16 Daily Food for Christians 1910 (Miniature Book)
New York Thomas Y. Crowell & Co. Circa 1910 Hard cover Very Good No jacket
Pretty little book which was a gift from a mother to her daughter. The book has no printed date so the inscription dated 1910 saves the day. It measures 3-1/4" x 2-1/2" and has 192 pages. The book is nicely made with subtle endpapers and gilding around all three edges of the text block. Book was intended to be read daily -- a few lines from Scripture and a few from a hymn. Dainty Dishes The Church of Christ Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Building Fund Cookbook
17 Dainty Dishes The Church of Christ Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Building Fund Cookbook
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Ladies of the Church of Christ Unknown soft cover Good
Very clean and tightly bound cookbook published to raise money for the church's building fund. There is no date for it, so I tried to do a little sleuthing, but the only church with that precise name was building in the 1960's and this booklet precedes that by decades. I then tried looking up the businesses which supplied ads, but again, not much luck. The only company that appeared was the C.H. Yeager Company which came to Akron in 1906 and changed its name to Yeager Company in 1946. The ad shows the old name, so again, it's clearly before 1946. Judging by the lack of digits in the phone numbers the booklet was published fairly early in the 20th century. The recipes are for light fare -- Hungarian potato salad, strawberry salad, marshmallow pudding, raspberry shrub and many more. Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 46 pages. Only faults are loss of bottom back corner which has snapped off at the point and a little browning to a few pages due to extra recipes laid-in. There even one for homemade dry cleaning!

Booklet measures 6"x 9-1/4" and is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing.

Dedication of the New St. John the Baptist Slovak Church (Campbell, Ohio 1954)
19 Dedication of the New St. John the Baptist Slovak Church (Campbell, Ohio 1954)
Campbell, Ohio Church Dedication Committee 1954 Card cover Very good condition
Very nice, clean dedication program and souvenir with no names or writing. The booklet was made with a suede-like cover, which after lying around all these years, needed to be vacuumed. So I did just that. This dedication was for the new church which replaced the original from 1914. There are numerous photographs of the church as it was being built and after it was finished. Other items are a history and photos of the congregation, as well as letters and photos of dignities such as Pope Pius XII and various bishops. There's also two lists of events -- the religious and the secular, plus lists of patrons and nice local ads.
