24 Success Articles From American Preservation Magazines
1 24 Success Articles From American Preservation Magazines
U.S.A. American Preservation Unknown date Unknown edition Disbound Articles Very Good Condition
I found these disbound articles in a box of Architectual Review Magazines which I bought at auction. I almost tossed them out until I realized how worthy they are. Each of the 24 focuses on a particular area within a state located anywhere in the country. They all derived from American Preservation magazine, so the color photographs are stunning. Each article is pretty long with many images. I wish I had more room to show them. Areas are these: New Orleans Lower Garden District; Providence, Rhode Island; Salem Massachusetts; Eutaw, Alabama's Greek Revival Architecture; Galveston, Texas; Mizner's Eden Palm Beach's Flamboyant Architecture; Brownsville, Texas; Waterford, Virginia; Helena, Montana; Columbus, Georgia; Madison, Indiana; Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Key West, Florida; Jacksonville, Oregon; Mt. Auburn in Cincinnati, Ohio; Manchester area of Pittsburgh; Savannah, Georgia; Powelton Village, Philadelphia; Saratoga Springs, New York; Crested Butte in the Rocky Mts.; Detroit's Woodward East; Oakland cemetery; Galena, Illinois and Bay View, A Summer Resort in Michigan. All are clean and stapled. Will still ship for $2 media in the U.S. as always.

Florida Official Road Map 1952
3 Florida Official Road Map 1952
State Road Department of Florida 1952 soft cover Fine
Crisp, clean, seemingly unused, map of Florida -- just the thing for a 50's road trip. What's neat about it is that you could use the front address lines and send it back home to friends and family. This one, however, was not sent. The map sports color photos and when folded is larger than the maps issued by the service stations. Closed it meaures 5"x8-1/2". There's extra tourist info too, such as a list of the meanings of Florida Indian names. Note on front -- "Drive safely .... prevent sorrow." This was a time when kids bounced around the backseat of the car like balls for playing jacks. I was one of them!!

Frank Lloyd Wright's Child of the Sun: A Walking Tour of Florida Southern College (circa 1998)
4 Frank Lloyd Wright's Child of the Sun: A Walking Tour of Florida Southern College (circa 1998)
Lakeland, Florida Florida Southern College circa 1998 Soft cover brochures Very good condition
Here we have three clean brochures which arrived together in the same cello bag. The two most important are'lt dated, but I did find a very small date on the campus map -- 1998.The major brochure with the photo of FLW opens to reveal four panels with information about local buildings illustrated with eight sepia pictures. Turn it over and you have more info and three more photos. The second brochure tells the story of Wright's relationship with the college. Thirdly, we have a campus map. The only fault to these may not be a fault at all because it provides additional information. On the back of the brochure about Wright's relationship to the college the previous owner penned names of what I surmise are donors to the FLW buildings on campus. Nice set.

Nine Florida Brochures Titusville, Sanibel and Captiva, Sanlando Springs, Seminole County, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Florida Turnpike (1960's)
8 Nine Florida Brochures Titusville, Sanibel and Captiva, Sanlando Springs, Seminole County, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Florida Turnpike (1960's)
Florida Various publishers 1960's soft cover Very good
I got all of these from an estate which dated back to WWI. Everything I bought was something that held meaning for the man who owned it. This trip to Florida appears to have been the vacation of a lifetime, as these are the only travel brochures he had. Normally I would list them individually, but decided to keep them intact for old time's sake. Only one brochure is dated, but it's easy to discern that they are all from the 60's due to the clothes and hairstyles and the phone numbers which have word prefixes. All are in color except the turnpike one and the Daytona Beach Shores. The latter has black and white photos of many motels.

14 Postcard Hotel Floridan Tampa
Boston, Mass. Colourpicture Unknowm date; Late 1950's early 60's Very good Unused condition
Beautiful card using a process the publisher called "Shini Color" which gave it a glossy finish and saturated color. It has not been used, so no postmark to date it. The only clue is the two figure postal code -- the five digit zip code wasn't launched until 1963. The Floridan in Tampa was one of the states finest hotels with 19 floors, air conditioning, a splendid dining room and a beautiful cocktail lounge featuring nightly entertainment. Card is clean and nice with just a small loss of color to upper left corner. Will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve.

Postcard Sand In My Shoes Florida Tichnor 110-N (1951)
19 Postcard Sand In My Shoes Florida Tichnor 110-N (1951)
Boston, Mass. Tichnor Quality Views 1951 Fine
The colors are so vibrant in this crisp clean card which has never been written on or sent in the mail. I know it's from 1951 as it's actually dated. I had a card like this before with a poem called Sand In My Shoes, but this isn't it. This one says, "There is a saying in this land If your shoes contain its sand You will come back once more To its fair and sunny shore!" Well, if that's a truthful "crack" Its a cinch I'll soon be back 'Cause SO MUCH SAND is in MY PAIR I can PLANT POTATOES there! Card will arrive in plastic sleeve.
