The Sculptor's Guild remains hale and hearty today, but this program comes from its very first outdoor exhibition in April and May 1938, just one year after they organized. During the Depression most American artists made their living via the WPA. Consequently, this exhibition relied on sponsors including Eleanor Roosevelt, Fiorello La Guardia, the Rockefeller Foundation and several noted NYC museums. Among the contributors whose work is included in full page black and white photography are Paul Manship, Chaim Gross, and Nathaniel Koz, all noted as earley practitioners of American Modernism. Program measures 6"x8-3/4" and has 80 pates, plus info at front. The yapped edges show the usual small tears at spots, but none have fallen off or been trimmed. The only other fault is evidence that the stapled text was reglued to cover at spine as per design.
