This is a most unusual find, a copy of the Goodall Library edition of Charles Dickens' first published work which made its debut (in hard cover) in the 1830's. This is the second Goodall (British company) unabridged printing of 250,000 soft cover copies in 1895. It sounds like a lot -- and it is -- but it's not easy to find a copy, as it was ephemeral by nature. Whoever owned this one valued it enough to have a special box made to protect it -- and protect it it did. The booklet has a sewn binding which is tight and effective and its pages and cover are clean, showing only a tiny bit of foxing to lower edge and two small chips to the same area/ As you can see from the cover, it was used as an advertising vehicle. Look around the margins at front and you will see references to custard powder, egg powder, and blancmange powder. The book measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and has 106 dense pages, plus a couple more pages of advertising. The box is in very nice condition.
