The name of this magazine derives from Gaius Maecenas, a Roman statesman and trusted advisor of Octavian. He was also a supportive friend to Homer and Virgil and the Maecenas name became the symbol of a generous patron of the arts. This magazine is truly a monograph which in this issue focuses on Renoir's painting The Luncheon of the Boating Party. This is one of the most beautiful classical paintings which glow with opulence. Especially beautiful is the fold-out at the back depicting the table and its beauties. The magazine measures 10-1/4" x 13" and is slim, but has many full page color photos -- no black and white. Magazine also has ads from a sponsor
