History of the Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan

By: Blackbird, Andrew J. (Chief Mack-E-Te-Be-Nessy)

Price: $15.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Fine

This is much newer than most of the things I buy, but it's a reprint of an 1887 history originally published in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The small format (just 5"x6-1/2" plus the simplicity of the binding, makes it rather ephemeral. This copy appears unread and is clean as a whistle inside and out. Hemingway fans will enjoy the stamp on the front page (see photo two) which commemorates the marriage of Papa and his first wife, Hadley Richardson, in Horton Bay, Michigan Sept. 3, 1921. The book tells the story of the Ottawa and Chippewa tribes of Michigan and also includes a grammar of their language, as well as a personal and family history of the author, a Native American who was the son of an Ottawa chief. 128 pages.
