What a charming item this is -- a calendar comprised of two pieces -- the large one which is a print of Glamis Castle of Dundee, former home of the Queen Mum, mounted on cardboard with a paper mat and measuring an ample 6-1/2" x8". The image is in full-color, as is the cameo portrait of the Her Majesty in the upper right corner. The ribbon at the top is for hanging. Suspended, also with the same ribbon, is a small calendar with all pages intact. This measures 3"x4". The calendar was given as a gift as per inscription at back which reads "Glamis Castle is only 5 miles from Longacre. Wishing yo... View More...

This one features a famous person on each page -- the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, Edna Winston, Elton John, Countess Mona Bismarck, the Count and Countess du Boisrouvray, Ava Gardner, Helene Beaumont, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Marlene Dietrich. The jewels are top drawer from the most revered jewelers in the world and each is beautifully described. Catalog is printed on glossy paper throughout. This crisp and clean catalog was the vehicle to disperse a 30 year collection during the summer of 2003. There were 55 pieces of very old English tableware, many painted in color enamels. One of the most interesting items of the collection though is the one on the cover. It's called an etui and it contains a gold fruit knife, scissors, an ivory notecard, a snuff spoon/needle and pincers. The date is circa 1755. View More...

Very clean, crisp guide to the Cooperative Festival which opened on Saturday May 2nd, 1951. The Opening Ceremony was held in the Fashion Theatre on the first day of the exhibtions. The festival was all about things people need and the people who design and sell them -- clothing and fabrics, electrical devices from appliances to entertainment, food, household needs, shoes, and services such as banking, travel, etc.. Vendors brought the newest and best and there was music from bands from England and Scotland and also fashion parades. Black and white photographs are on almost every page. The gui... View More...
About two decades ago when I began my business I had one of these calendars for 1951. I thought it was charming, but never again did I see one until recently. It's in nice condition too and no one pulled off any of the small monthly pages. The cover photo is printed in sepia and the big photos inside are in black and white. The cover shot is of Westminster Abbey seen from St.James's Park. Inside there are no notations or circling on any of the dates. Very nice! Would make a nice gift for someone born that year. Downton Abbey brought us beautiful places, charming and not-so-charming people, humor, pathos, tears, suprises and the yearning for the next episode. This desk calendar has never been used -- no writing on any of the pages. The calendar measures 6-1/2" x 9" and is filled with full page color portraits of the cast. A beautiful souvenir of our favorite Sunday night serial. View More...
Crisp, beautiful art catalog published to accompany an exhibit held December 6-21, 2006 in association with Sally Hunter Fine Art. The artist, Ernest Howard Shepard, is best known for Winnie the Pooh. He was born in 1879 and died in 1976, but worked well into his 90's. Shepard is associated with a gentle art that portrayed a very English point of view -- the enchanted places of childhood, and the comedy of manners, but, above it all, Winnie the Pooh. Many wonderful examples of his work throughout, each with attribution. Most in black and white, but some color. 32 Pages. Mesures 6-1/2" x 9-3/4... View More...

I bought a handful of these little magazines a week ago and am amazed at how interesting they are. Any issue is an Anglophile's delight. This issue offers the following articles: A Childhood in Bow; Frederick Rogers Bookbinder and Journalist; The Ingles of Limehouse; Satan, Sufragettes and Salvation; The Bethnal Green Tube Disaster; and They Carried the Banner. The latter is about education in poverty stricken neighborhoods. People were binding together to improve things, but chose a name which might be a little .... It was The King Edward Ragged School Youths' Institute and Christian Mission.... View More...
Ehrman's Tapestry is so gorgeous -- the photographs are nothing short of voluptuous. Flowers, foliage, birds, beasts, pictures and patterns ,and fruits and vegetables all come together to create designs of beauty and a catalog to keep even when the new comes out. The catalog measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 64 pages. The price list remains inside and shows prices from $25 to $2845 for two different large carpets -- apples and cabbages and a Georgian carpet. These are worked in strips that are then sewn together. Also of interest is info and photos of the Ehrman Tapestry and Wallpaper shop. The catal... View More...
Love this magazine, especially this issue. If you are of a literary bent, it's fun to read the first article titled The Family of Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin and Mary Shelley, replete with family tree. Other interesting articles are: A True and Faithful Inventory of the Goods Belonging to Dr. Swift, Vicar of Lara Cor; Hugenot Family Research made Easier; Asylum and Schools for Imbeciles at Darenth, Kent; History of No. 64 Squadron R.F.C.; and new developments in Medieval Genealogy. Beautiful watercolor print bursting with color and activity. I purchased it from a longtime dealer who saved plates from damage books. I had a hard time figuring out who the artist was though because he only printed the name on one print! But the style is so unique it was easy to see that the others were British artist, Frank Brangwyn's, work too. The print is tipped-in on the paper rather than being printed on it and measures in its entirety 9-1/2"x11-1/2". The image size is 6-3/4"x9". Plate is clean on both sides and ready to frame. These little magazines are great fun to read whether you believe in dowsing, or you don't. They're all clean and tightly bound and there are no labels. One issue shows foxing to the first two pages (see last photo) caused by a catalog of books available in the Dowser Society Bookshop. The catalog almost makes it worth the defect -- no, I think it actually does! :-) The magazines measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and have around 47 pages each. Here's asample of topics: the use of numbers in magic and healing, dowsing and the healing art, dowsing in everyday life, reflexology, what makes a good dowser, ... View More...
From its notebook look to its colorful sculptures this is a very different art catalog. Keith Tyson is a British conceptual artist and winner of the Turner Prize in 2002 for his graphic art. The sculptures depicted came to light due to his curiosity about decision-making during the creative process. The essential question was can the artist dare to take a chance on chance? Yes! And from then he went on to create a series of steps to calculate and determine the size, shape, and colors of each work and then fabricate the outcome which became a "dicey" and very interesting exhibit.Catalog measures...
