There are designs for both men and women. The folder measures 6" x 11" and is right sized for the pages. There's also fun names for the duds --Villa d'Estate, After the Hare Before the Grouse, and The Archaeology of Laughing. This is a good one to hang on to. View more info

Condition: Good condition

This is a new catalog to me, but I love the cover with Santa lugging toys and books for the good boys and girls. But even the grown-ups got some goodies -- small collectibles from all over the country. The order form is still bound-in with no writing. Each item is measured and photographed in black and white. There are only a few small defects to the catalog -- two small pieces of archival tape on both sides of each corner. One last lost the corner at the back. I also added a white label due to an another partial which was half adressed, hence the plain label. The vatalog has 146 pages. View more info

This small pamphlet is one of a large collection prepared for, and sold individually at, the U.S.S.R. Pavilion at the 1939 World's Fair. They are priced according to subject matter and availability. All measure 4-1/2"x5-3/4". This one has 22 pages and was written by the Director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R. I was so happy to find a copy of this magazine still hanging on to the overhang known as the yapped edge. They always get tiny tears, but some end up falling off in spots and then are clipped by the owner. This one has the tiny tears, but they've been repaired by me with discreet archival tape. This is a good issue too with two stories by well known authors -- "A Christmas Courtship" by Edith Wharton and illustrated by Rose Cecil O'Neill, the artist who gave us the kewpie doll; and "A Christmas Surrender" by Ralph Henry Barbour. Articles cover these topics: New York City's Wonders in 1909; Ca... View more info

Publisher: Grand Rapids, Michigan, Carl Forslund Inc.: 1958

Seller ID: 3302

Condition: Very good condition

This catalog joins a list of furniture manufacturers and sellers from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. For decades they had dominated the furniture industry, but the items in this catalog are not the furniture of the 50's with its obvious modernity. Forslund's was a retro trip through colonial and rustic furniture and accessories including dishes, lamps, carpet, and more. But even within the retro look there were choices -- quaint American, Forslund farmstead, plantation pine, and American mahogany. The catalog measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 104 pages. View more info

Speedwriting The Natural Shorthand (Six Volume Course 1937)

By: Dearborn, Emma B.

Price: $40.00

Publisher: New York City, School of Speedwriting Inc.: 1937

Seller ID: 2202

Six handsome hard cover manuals which offer a chance to learn to take notes quickly using the symbols for the alphabet that you already know. The course became available in 1923, but this set is from 1937. Both the pages and the covers are clean and tightly bound. The only exterior fault is a light stain to the front cover of five of the six at the far right edge. The inside is clean, but the previous owner erased all of the penciled answers in volumes one and two, but the others were never touched. I don't dare go over the erasures with a document pad, as the paper is too thin. You can still... View more info

The Clevelander Magazine April, 1968

Edition: Volume 44, Number 12

Condition: Near fine

This magazine traces its beginning to 1926 when the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce launched it. Over the years it shrank and grew, depending on the winds of prosperity, but in the late 60's change swept in when the Chamber of Commerce became the Greater Cleveland Growth Association. This issue from 1968 is the product of the latter, but in 1970 the magazine became a hard cover journal issued four times a year. That lasted for two years and then the Clevelander went soft cover again -- until the new kid on the clock, Cleveland Magazine, won the audience. This issue of the The Clevelander shows ... Very uncommon piece of ephemera in excellent condition. Cover and pages of this oversized piece are clean as a whistle inside and out. Beautfully illustrated with color renderings of rooms --also includes a color chart with 18 hues and suggestions for their use. Industrial items from the 1920's are beautiful -- I love the strong use of ink and many images in these books. This one measures 5-1/4" x 9" and has 506 pages. There is a bit of wear to the top and spine. The only real defect is what I presume is a crack a few pages in by the contents page. The previous owner used white book tape which is working well. I thought of taking it off and doing it with a smaller width, but it could tear the page. Everything else is very clean and nice with no writing or names. Union Steam Pump Co. made pumping machinery, compressors and condensers. There are als... View more info

Vey nice, clean booklet which begins with a facsimile letter written by Emerson in his own hand. The writing is large, but hard to read, so the letter is also in print. There is also commentary at back by Herbert Faulkner West. Emerson is writing to his publisher to say that he can't give a date as to when his own book will be finished. He then segues away from that news and on to his friend, Henry David Thoreau's book which at that time was being published by Ticknor. Emerson thought, however, to see if his publisher might take it in England as well. Booklet measures 6" x 8-1/2 and has 15 pag... View more info

Crisp and clean as new! This is a wonderful read if you're a Clevelander and/or a collector of books and ephemera about books. It tells the story of Richard Laukhuff, a German immigrant who ended up in Cleveland where he opened a bookstore in 1916 at 40 Taylor Arcade. Laukhuff died in 1957 and for awhile his wife, Hermione, kept the store going by herself. But even after it closed the legacy of Laukhuff's remained. The book opens with the story of collector, Philip Kaplan's, first visit to the shop and his meeting with the rather formidable Laukhuff.Intimidated though he was, Kaplan was too en...
