Very nice clean, tightly bound, document bound with a plastic spiral which is still holding well. Booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 24 pages and both diagrams and photographs. The Exchange Hotel was the oldest standing brick structure at the time of the rennovation. it had deteriorated quite a bit after it became a rooming house and a reestaurant/night club. In July of 1977 a raging fire damaged it extensively. It's a very interesting report sprinkled with anecdotes such as Charles Dickens once checked in! View More...
Bright, colorful postcard from Aldrich's Pines Camp & Trailer Court located on U.S. Rte. 41 in Valdosta, Georgia. It consisted of 50 cottages located right in the heart of the city, each with a bath, and "every convenience" -- steam heat, electric fans, and garages." The card was sent to Mrs. S.L. Ramsey of Warren, Ohio from her son who said this, "Dear mom, Am staying here tonite. Saw Dorothy yesterday. She lives just out of Daytona Beach and has a camp and gas station on the back. A trip to Wales in the early 1920's provided beautiful hotels, many sites to be seen, and lots of information in a guide such as this one. The guide measures 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" and has six clean, nice fold-out maps as well as other city plan in text. There are also illustrated with black and white photographs and ads for things needed for the tourist. The only faults are some wrinkles to the spine and few small tears to some map which I repaired with archival tape which is almost invisible. There's only one tear per map due to the need to be careful when opening. View More...
Very pretty vintage softly colored postcard without a divided back. It has not been used -- no writing and no postmark. The front indicates that the hotel was located on Washington Avenue at Ninth and St. Charles in St. Louis, Missouri. On the reverse side it mentions 650 rooms with bath. Card will arrive in a plastic sleeve. It's very crisp and clean and has a white border. View More...
Not only is this beautiful, but it has overlays which add even more beauty to the pages. There are gorgeous full color photographs of both the exterior and interior. The text, which is substantial, tells the story of how the hotel became to be given the fact that it almost didn't happen because of the dicovery of a cloister. the project took longer than expected, but a good solution saved the day. The booklet measures 8-1/4" x 11-3/4" and has 40 exquisite pages. The only problem is minor edge wear and a small crease to the upper fornt corner. View More...
This one's not very old, but there aren't many floating around, so it's a good one for collecting forward. It's in excellent condition with staff photo in full color -- check out the chefs in the back row. The momento measures 7" tall by 9" across and shows no defects. View More...
A trip to Wales in the early 1920's provided beautiful hotels, many sites to be seen, and lots of information in a guide such as this one. The guide measures 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" and has several clean, nice fold-out maps. The guide itself has 144 pages, plus 80 pages of ads for things needed for the tourist. The only faults are some wrinkles to the spine and a small tear to a map which I repaired with archival tape which is almost invisible. Beautiful, crisp linen postcard with sharp corners and no postal stamp or writing on divided back. The hotel entrance is on the side of the building to the right. Citizens Savings & Loan is located at street level by the light blue parked car. The photo for the card was taken by Stivas Studio. Card will arrive in a plastic sleeve. View More...
Very nice, clean hotel brochure with a very handsome front cover. It's written in Spanish only, but if you have even a little high school Spanish you'll get the drift. It measures 4-1/2"x 8" and has 30 counted pages. There's info of course about the hotel, but also focuses on things to see an do --restaurants, historic places, sports, museums, air lines, religious monuments, English church services, art expositions, consulates, Montserrat, and the Costa Brava. There is no date. View More...
This is an unused linen postcard in fine condition. There's no date, but I suspect it's from the 50's. The caption on the back says it was located on U.S. Route 20 between Thruway Exit 48 & 49, two miles east of Alden NY and 25 miles east of Buffalo. This was one of the many mom and pop motels available during the period. The amenities included radio, TV, central heat (odd that that would even be mentioned in upstate New York!), and Beauty Rest mattresses. The owners were Mr. & Mrs. George C. Folkerth. View More...
This is a stunning card with bright color, crisp card stock, handsome linen finish and sharp corners. It has a white border and a divided back with no writing and no postmark. Up in the left corner of the message side is this explanation; "The Lido Beach Hotel is located on one of the finest beaches in America. It offers to permanent and transient guests comfortable accommodations with good cuisine. In close proximity to the hotel is the Lido Beach Pavilion. The hotel overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, a tropical setting of palm trees." Card will arrive in plastic sleeve. View More...
These artful luggage labels are a collectors' dream. I had about a hundred of them some years ago and a small amount are still kicking around. This is one of them. The hotel is handsome in itself, but the stylized sunset is beautiful. The label measures 3-1/4" high and 4-1/4" across. It has not been used on luggage or pasted in an album. Only defects are a small crease to upper right corner and a tiny snip off the point of the lower right corner. Label will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve with cardboard backing. View More...
The Colonial Hotel was a fixture of downtown Cleveland from 1900 to 1929. This menu was for the hotel's 1908 Christmas dinner. The light blue cover shows pale stains, a few light spots, and a few scratches, but overall isn't too bad. The original ribbon was untied when I got it, but when I tried to fix it the ribbon tore in my hands like paper. Instead I used a heavy vintage satin ribbon in white. I also used a piece of archival tape to repair the split on the front cover. It'beneath the menu part, so you can't see it all. On then to the dinner --That Christmas the hotel offered celery, o... This is nifty little leaflet with information about two different hotel apartment rentals a and a nice map of the area. Leaflets tend to get lost or tossed, so having this one is a plus. Closed the booklet measures 3-1/2" x 6-1/4". Opened it's 10-1.4" wide and 9" tall. The Grove Annex boasted big rooms with modern furniture, rooms with running water and semi-private baths and suites with private baths. Prices ranged from $1.50 to $7. The Mansions were a step up from the looks of things. Here you could get a three room apartment (there's a photo) and 100 of the 150 rooms had private baths. They... View More...
This travel guide has it all -- great hotels, restaurants, things to do, things to buy. It measures 7" x 8" and has 25 counted pages with brown printing and sepia photographs. It was tricky to figure out the date, but after several tries I got it -- a photo of Countess Nicol and her son (see photo) did it. The Countess and Count were Little People -- I remembered seeing that picture somewhere else. It was supposed to have been in the 1940's. I think that's about right because the fashions are 30's-40's and there is very nice photo of a tour bus. View More...
This is a lovely little package of six items from Paris and each one is clean and nice. The largest is a menu (from Paris-New York En Boeng 747) and measuring 6" x 8". There is also a 50th anniversaire in 1978 with Paris Vision, a doubble bus vehicle for seeing the sites, plus a nice brochure from Hotel Sofitel Paris (4" x 8") with 10 pages with color amenities on each page. The Musees, monumentsof Paris and around France. Again, this is 1978 during November and December. But the two colorful postcards are exquisite. Both cards show a 1978 stamp. The cards were sent to the Medcal Records Depr... View More...
Believe it or not, this motel is still open from what I can gather. It's located near Cincinnati, Ohio in Sharonville. The card shows a clean, well-cared for place and the Triple AAA logo indicates that it had their approval. The rooms were completely air-conditioned and it was only 12 miles to downtown Cincy. There were 20 rooms with 20 baths and showers, free TV, and adjoining beautiful Sharon Woods where guests could enjoy boating, fishing, and golfing. And there were restaurants nearby too. Card has not been used and will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve. View More...
Very attractive, unused postcard with a pristine divided back and stamp box. This hotel is a Canadian national treasure and is revered as a historic gem. In 1965, however, it was getting a bit seedy and almost met the bulldozer, but was refurbished and brought back to life. Card will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve. View More...
I have a liking for hotel postcards and buy them whenever they show up in good condition. This one is Canadian and lovely in its architecture and flowery grounds. The card was never used which means no writing, no postage and no stamping. The back is divided and there is a stamp box. Overall this card is a beauty -- clean and bright with sharp corners. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve. View More...
Crisp, bright postcard, postally unused and no writing to divided back. Corners are sharp except for the a tiny crease to upper left. This motel is SO 1950's -- the highways were filled with them before the chains motels took over. This one boasted interspring mattresses, shower over tub baths, gas heat, garages, radios and clean premises. Note the AAA logo to the top right corner.
