Yesterday I got thirty Fortune magazines from the 30's, so if you don't see what you want let me know and I'll see if I have it. Fortune was one of the most beautiful magazines of the Depression era and still retains interest in its articles as well as its design. This time two topics caught my attention -- the ever controversial Father Coughlin and wine production in the United States. There's also stories about radium, industrial designers, U.S. Rubber and more. The magazine is very large at 11-1/2"x14" and has 142 pages. Only faults are a small chip to top front edge and minor wear to very ... View more info

Very clean, nice issue of one of the star magazines of the 30's. The photography is excellent, as are the articles and the magazine's design. Three topics grabbed my attention -- a colorful piece about Anheiser-Busch and its bottled beer, Part I of a story about women in business, and a look at Mr. Rockefeller's renovation of colonial Willamsburg. There's also a piece about the cotton industry, one on U.S. Smelting & Refining and a profile of Harry Hopkins. Magazine has no real defect of note. It measures 11-1/2"x14" and has 140 pages. OVERSEAS ORDERS WELCOME, but shipping may be higher than s... View more info

There is a bit damage to this one, but I bought it anyway because the article about Japanese silk is fantastic! I'll get to that soon, but first you need to know that the upper corner of the last couple pages and the back cover corner were all creased up. I have been able to smooth it all out (see photos)-- we're talking just a couple pages at the back. One required archival tape before the corner fell off and one has a small loss of a corner. The cover just shows several creases at the corner. There's also a small bit of wear to both the top and bottom of the spine, but it doesn't impinge on ... View more info

By: N/A

Price: $30.00

Publisher: New York city, Time Inc.: 1938

Edition: Volume XVIII, No. 5

Condition: Very good condition

There's lots to read about in this over-sized magazine, but I think the most provactive is the story about Saks Fifth Avenue, which to this day keeps the population fashionable. Other topics of interest are: The Industrial South; Nunn-Bush and labor; the adventures of Del Monte; energy sources, including solar; and a look at the American Medical Association. Magazine is big at 11-1/2" x 14" with 174 pages. It's clean inside and out with just minor spots of edge wear to cover, but overall is really very nice. We have others listed online here, but also have a stack that are not on yet. So if yo... View more info

This is a very nice clean issue. The first page of the text which is printed on heavy, uncoated paper shows a bit of toning to edges, due to a color ad next to it. The magazine is big measuring 11-1/2" x 14" and has very good ads, plus these topics for articles:Chrysler; A Farm In Illinois with paintings by S.R. Badman; Women in Business II, but a stand alone about office workers; Philippine Gold; Saratoga with paintings by Sanford Ross; and especially for Ohioans, the Sherwin- Williams Paint Company View more info

Before I say anything else the fly in the lower front corner of the front cover is part of the design. It's so realistic I actually tried waving it away! Now then, the magazine is clean and tightly bound and has several interesting articles. I think the best stories are the success of Canada, the Curtiss-Wright company and its planes; Poloroid (remember waiting for the picture to emerge?); and the William Morris Theatrical Agency. Other articles cover corn products, business and government (timely!), and anarchy in the hat business! Magazine measures 11-1/2"x 14" and has 142 pages. There's a s... View more info

This cover is so colorful -- it loks like Christmas, but its the first issue of the year. The magazine is large at 11-1/4" x 14" and has 164 pages. My favorite is the first article which is about Miami, Florida and the beautiful paintings of J.W. Golinkin. There are lots more though including these topics -- Boys' Schools, Case National Bank, Felix Frankfurter's biography, young men in the government, and beer in cans. There's also a quarterly Fortune Survey which asks readers to chime in on theese subjects -- war and peace, Roosevelt's popularity, taxes, beer in cans and Anti-semitism. All of ... View more info

Fortune magazine is always a gem, but this one has quite a number of articles. The topics include Mussolini's ships, Tuscanini, brewing beer, Eastman Kodak, race horses, Housing -- Part IV Labor, the tin industry and Joseph P. Day, banker and businessman. Magazine is beautifully illustrated throughout and had great ads for General Electric, the Sterling Engine Company, Gobelin Chocolates, and Pitcairn Autogiro. The magazine measures 11-1/4" x 14-1/4" and has 145 pages. Only defect is a small haze of foxing to back cover and to first pages Very light though. View more info

Publisher: New York, Time Inc.: 1932

Edition: Volume VI, No. 1

Seller ID: 3848

Condition: Very good condition

The cover of the July, 1932 Fortune Magazine is especially appealing. It's also in very clean, tightly bound condition with only one defect -- what appears as a bit of foxing to the center of the first page which is an index for all issues of Volume VI. The good news is it does not carry over to the reverse. The articles include the California Institute of Technology, genetics, physics, cosmology, applied sciences, United States budget, S. Klein's Store in New York City, President Herbert Hoover's Economics, and the Federal Reserve Board. But there's also a pop of color thanks to the drawings... View more info

These old Fortune Magazines are a thing of beauty. This one has lots of gorgeous color ads for Lucky cigarettes, Lincoln cars, Kentucky Tavern Whiskey, Florida vacations and more. Articles are few, but lengthy, including U.S. Steel, plastics, the autogyro, Phillip Morris and the star of the show -- Manhattan night life. Many photos throughout in both color and black and white. The magazine is clean and tightly bound with crisp, clean paper. Only fault is a little spine roll which is common because people stacked them. Magazine measures 11-1/2"x14" and is quite heavy. We have around 40 Fortune ... View more info
