I am not usually attracted to most of the matted and/or framed advertising available, but this one caught my eye. The monotone art is not only elegant, but evocative of the Jazz Age -- the world of Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald and the artistic women of the Left Bank. As indicated on the reverse side, the image comes from the Picture Section of Woman's Home Companion magazine July, 1922. Both it and its mat are very clean. The art is the creation of John La Gatta (1894-1977), an illustrator best remembered for his work featuring women. The overall size with mat is 12"x13" while the image itself is ... View More...

This is an unusual catalog for an auction, even by Sotheby's many handsome examples. This one features a famous person on each page -- the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, Edna Winston, Elton John, Countess Mona Bismarck, the Count and Countess du Boisrouvray, Ava Gardner, Helene Beaumont, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Marlene Dietrich. The jewels are top drawer from the most revered jewelers in the world and each is beautifully described. Catalog is printed on glossy paper throughout. The colorful scene of a sportsman in a boat in what looks like a marshy area made me think this blotter might be newer than it is. I got out my magnifying glass and there it was though -- a 1917 date. The Willard Battery Storage company was founded in Cleveland in 1896 by Theodore Willard. It stayed the course al the way through WWII, but finally changed hands in 1952. As you can see, there's another comapany name on the blotter, the St. Thomas Storage Battery Company, but here's why. Under the phone number of St, Thomas it reads, "All Makes of Batteries Repaired. Authorized Willard Service S... View More...
Here we have six unused ink blotters advertising under two names. The Woodall Stenographic Office blotters were all printed in 1921. At that time they advertised stenographic work, mimeographing and multigraphing. The other two advertised Woodall Letter Service and both of those were printed in 1929. They maintained the same services, but added some new ones too --mimeoscoping and printing. All blotters measures 3"x6". I'm not sure where this company was from, but it retained the same phone number which began with a Wabash prefix followed by four numbers. View More...
Though this advertising fan has some creases to the colorful picture it's very homey and the dogs and the fireplace are enchanting. The image is named "There Goes Your Old Hunting Coat" thanks to the five playful dogs. The fan intself measures 7-3/4 x 9-1/4" and has a 7-1/2" handle. The back of the fan has a nice picure of the Garret Snuff company. There is information beneath it and is easily read even though there's a clear piece of tape. View More...
This is a small hardcover book which advertises Finlandia, the vodka from Finland. It's a nice collectible in very clean, bright condition with no names or writing. The booklet measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/4" and has 39 pages printed on quality coated paper. Chapters are titled thus: Finlandia Origins, Tasting Notes, Flavor Profiles; Bartender Basics; and Recipes. The booklet is illustrated with small photographs in full color. View More...
I wish the previous owner hadn't used the front cover as a scratch pad to see how much it would cost to buy two items. I wish even more that he or she had tried to erase it, maybe because the answer is wrong! Anyway this is a very nice catalog. I don't know this company and have never seen one of their catalogs, but I very much like the size which is easily handled at 5-1/2" x 9-1/2". The catalog has a whopping 972 pages of fashions for the whole family, toys, jewelry, engagement rings, household items, furniture, guns, shoes, typewriters and much more. This is a complete immersion into mater... View More...
Very nice clean catalog showcasing the ribbons available in 1939 from the company --all 30 samples intact with available colors listed under each swatch. The catalog measures 8" high and 9-1/2" wide and has five pages of samples. It was geared to the florist trade, so other items mentioned include flowerpot covers, corsage pins, corsage boxes, cut flower boxes, chiffon, gold or silver cord, rubberized shoulder and wrist shields, and green florists' thread. Very nice! View More...

This is an interesting piece of ephemera for children fro m Akron Saalfield Publishing. It's sort of a book, but more a booklet with a strange little spin. It's very nice and clean and measures 6"x11" with a bright attractive cover design. The only fault is one flat crease to the bottom back corner. It's amazing that this book survived in such great condition because it was designed as an activity book in which children were encouraged to clip pictures of products from ads in the newspaper and paste them at the appropriate places in the story. Fortunately, this copy survived unscathed! The "... View More...

This one's fairly scarce and has no date, but I researched a few products and they seemed to hail from the 70's. The booklet is oversized at 8-1/2"x11" with 40 pages. It's printed on quality coated paper and is illustrated with technical charts and graphs and black and white photographs. Book is clean and tightly bound with just some mild toning to edges of back cover and at bottom front cover. Does not extend inside. View More...
These little booklets are a collector's dream. They're small, cute, colorful and packed with products for the dolls. The booklets measures 3" across and 3-3/4" tall. The two that say Barbie, Kenm and Midge (one blue, one white) contain different items, so each is its own treat. The third booklet contains "exclusive fashions" for Barbie, Ken, and Midge, plus Allen and Skipper. This one's the thickest and has other items in addition to clothing, such as Barbie's Dream House, a Theatet, furniture and more. View More...
This is more dream book than working catalog because it was printed while WWII raged on. The Crane Company knew there would be no building or remodeling until after Victory Day, but they also knew that people had stockpiled lots of war bonds for later. It was a good move because it sparked both creativity and interest while consumers waited. The booklet is filled with kitchens, baths, and heating and plumbing items. It measures 8-1/4" x 11" and has 21 colorful pages with only a few in black and white. Also laid-in is a booklet of the same size which shows many choices in various categories. E... View More...
This is a small catalog with lots of eye appeal. It measures just 3-1/4" x 6" with 60 pages, all illustrated in full color. Aside from a small crease to upper back corner it's in excellent condition with no fault of note. All you had to do was buy cigarettes, hang on to the coupons, and trade them in for something in the catalog -- and what an array of items! There are of course smoking accessories, but there's also household items including furniture, games and books, umbrellas, luggage, baby items, fishing gear and clothes for men etc. View More...
Nice red, black, and silver graphic design on front cover. Spiral bound catalog designed to lie flat. Measures 6-1/2"x9" and features 135 pages of products, all of which are illustrated and described. Designed for coal and ore mines, quarries, and industrial applications. Only faults are toning to blank pages at front and back and some flat creasing to heavy card covers. Contents also include technical drawings of track and pages of technical charts and data, as well as several full page real photographs in black and white, including a great one of the Switch Shop at Bethlehem's Steelton, ... Love the black and white Scotties who pose for all things Scotch whiskey.I had one of these bridge tally folders years ago, but without the pencil which this one has. The pencil's cool because it too is marked Black and White along its length. The tally pad has all the pages, but only the first one is toned because it's against the printing inside the folder. The folder tells how to play Bridge and how to score. Folder measures 4" x 7-3/4" and opens up to twice that much. The only faults are a little light foxing to the white vinyl part of the front cover. The back is covered in paper which s... View More...
