Taliesin Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation 1985

By: N/A

Price: $20.00

Publisher: Scottsdale, Ariszona, Printer only: 1986

Seller ID: 0086

Condition: Very good

This is a beautiful oversized, full color promotional piece likely sold to tourists. The condition is quite good with just a flat crease to the upper front corner and isolated wear spots along the spine which in no way compromise it. It's in full color throughout with gorgeous photos of Wright's work and that of Taliesin Architects. The name Taliesin derives from that of a Welsh poet-bard who sang of the glories of fine art. The piece (it seems too big to call a booklet) measures 9"x12". Some extra goodies were found tucked inside which I will pass along. One is an empty shopping bag from a T... View more info

I love architecture and old homes, so this catalog was a must-have. It's an enormous book used in a retail setting to show the types of moldings, fireplaces, doors, doorways, stairways, and cabinetry available for a 40's home. Huge full-page illustrations, some in black and white and some in full color -- 100 pages in all. The book is spiral bound to lie flat, but a piece of the plastic comb in missing at the very bottom of the spine. Book measures 16"x19" and is clean and nice inside and out with just a small bit of corner wear. Would be very helpful to an architect or designer, but also t... View more info

Fabulous over-sized auction catalog filled with rare and beautiful items, all of which are pictured in full color. Measures 10-1/2"x12-1/2 and is clean and tightly bound with just a few spots of wear at spine, none of which compromises its integrity. The former owner's mailing label is on the reverse. This particular catalog is noteworthy due to the sale of Frank Lloyd Wright's personal car, a 1956 Aztec Red Mercedes Gull Wing designed especially for him after he redesigned a New York City car dealership which has since been demolished. The opening bid was to have been $300,000 and Jay Leno w... View more info

Very nice booklet oversized at 8"x10-1/2" Though clearly an advertising vehicle for the Copper and Brass Research Association, the contents are most impressive -- NOT a "fluff piece." It's illustrated throughout with both photographs and drawings with the emphasis on the use of brass and copper as an investment for the future -- copper roofs, copper leaders and gutters, brass plumbing, and copper, brass or bronze hardware. Booklet has 31 pages and is clean and tightly bound. The top front edge shows evidence of something stamped on it at one time, but is smudged. There is no date, and few clue... View more info

Beautiful as new planning guide used to design Cleveland's fabulous Playhouse Square entertainment area. Yes, it's book-sized, but it was produced for temporary use which qualifies it as ephemera. A most interesting ephemera item published upon the dedication of the hospital on June 17, 1931 at Cleveland's Severance Hall. These are a lovely find if you are enchanted by the architecture of New Orleans. I've never seen this many in one place ever, but I got them from the estate of a Castleden collector. Castleden was a British artist who emigrated to New Orleans and continued his career as an artist there. The cards were aimed at the tourist trade -- ten scenes for a quarter. Three of the original envelopes will accompany them, but the cards weren't in them, so I am uncertain which belong where. The scenes are Old World beautiful and include, but are not confined to, these subjects: Pirate Alley, the monastery of... View more info

Very clean, nicely kept magazine marred only by a small abrasion to outer front edge, a small chip to side of one page (not affecting text) and creasing to the same page which has been pressed flat in the book press by me. As you can see, the cover caricature is Frank Lloyd Wright, the star of this issue. His accompanying article is entitled "How Frank Lloyd Wright Got His Medal". To give you an idea of the tone the teaser reads, "He behaved rather like Moses with a quart of skimmed milk and an aggressive gall bladder ...." Another story of note is "The Guns at Falaise Gap", a first person acc... View more info

I bought this at an estate sale along with a small stack of other attractive prints depicting various landmarks of Omaha, Nebraska. The odd thing is there's no information other than the site and its origin. The scene shows horses and carriages and a streetcar at the side of the road, so it appears to depict the early 1900's. The image is of the New York Life building and is printed on heavy cardstock. It measures 7-1/2"x9" and is clean and nice on both sides. View more info

I bought this at an estate sale along with a small stack of other attractive prints depicting various landmarks of Omaha, Nebraska. The churches pictured here are identified beneath them beginning at the top left and moving clockwise -- Trinity Cathedral, Central United Presbyterian, Kountze Memorial and First Baptist. The print is on heavy card stock and is clean and attractive. Only fault is a tiny loss of paper at the lower right corner, but this would not be seen once framed. The print measures 7-3/4"x9".
