A rather hard to find booklet which contains quality black and white photographs of Timken Steel, Timken Carbon and Alloy Seamless Steel Tubing, Timken Bearings, Timken Rock Bits, and Timken Fuel Injection Equipment, totaling more than 100 images, each with explanatory captioning. Book measures 6"x9". Cover shows light soil only. Pages are tightly bound and clean with the exception of a a smudge to upper corner of first page. Former owner penciled notes to blank page at back. Otherwise quite good. View More...
This charming color scene is one that's rarely found of the Club House at Turkeyfoot Lake, Akron, Ohio which was a summer resort. Look closely and you can see women in pastel dresses amongst the trees. The card was never used and, as you can see, shows no edge wear or creasing. It has a divided back and stamp box shows the cost of postage as a penny for domestic, island possessions, Canafa, Cuba, Mexico and Panama and two cents for overseas. View More...
Crisp and clean as new with no names or writing. Chuck Ayers rendered the green tinted pages with the accompanying descriptions written by Russ Mussara, both of whom worked for the Akron Beacon Journal. Each month has its own picture of a place somewhere in Summit County. Here's what you'll see: St. Vincent Cemetery on W. Market St. at Merriman Rd.; School children going home from the Stone School in downtown Akron (originally built in 1840);Tuscora Park at Tuscarawas Ave. & 5th St. in Barberton; the renovation of Herrick House at Hale Farm; Eastwood Ave. under the tracks at the CSX Railroad ... This card is fabulous! There's no date on it because it's unused, but I grew up in Akron, Ohio and I know I was at this parade when I was a kid because we never missed it. I know it's from the 60's too because that's when Chevrolet sponsored the Soap Box Derby and that was when the Derby was a REALLY BIG DEAL. The parade was heading up Main Street with the truck positioned between the two department stores, Polsky's and O'Neil's, which were right across the street from each other. I still remember the thrill of the flying confetti! Card will arrive in a plastic sleave View More...
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio does love a party, so every 25 years they throw one. This one from 1987 celebrates the town's Supersextus Sesquicentennial. Can't say I have ever run across a Suspersextus Sesquicetennial, but here it is. The book is hard cover with a dark blue pebbled cover decorated with gilt at face. Inside are numerous black and white photographs printed on quality coated paper and a full color section at the back showing residents having fun at the event. The text tells some history and also highlights the town's attributes. Measures 9"x11-1/4" and has 138 pages. View More...
This is a rather scarce piece of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio ephemera. It is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing and just one small crease to top front corner. The booklet measures 9" tall and 9-1/4" wide and is printed on quality coated paper. There is a small bit of text, but the emphasis is on photographs of which there are 21 of important historical figures of the area, plus 33 depicting places and buildings and one of people at the ferry. Sites include the bridge at Gaylord's Grove, St. John's Church, Linwood Cottage at Silver Lake, the chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, the Gorge Bridge, t... View More...
This is such a fun find. I've had the sesquicentennial book a couple times, but I've never seen the cloth banner. Yet here they are together from the same previous owner. The banner is quite large at 27"x36" and is printed on one side. There is a small section at the lower right corner where the thread seems a little dirty on the hem, but otherwise it's crisp and clean. The program shows a little wear, but not much, and has no names or writing. Inside there is a laid-in certificate with no name filled in for the Cuyahoga Falls Area Jubilee Belles. The program measures 8-1/2"x11" and is filled ... View More...
Very attractive, colorful cover art and relative rarity make this piece of 1929 ephemera a stand-out. The booklet was published by the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce in hopes of attracting new residents to the community located north of Akron. It's very clean and tightly bound with no glaring faults and measures 6"x9". Pages are printed on coated paper and illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. 27 pages cover all aspects of the town and why its real estate, amenities and low taxes made it a prime choice. Very clean and tightly bound cookbook published to raise money for the church's building fund. There is no date for it, so I tried to do a little sleuthing, but the only church with that precise name was building in the 1960's and this booklet precedes that by decades. I then tried looking up the businesses which supplied ads, but again, not much luck. The only company that appeared was the C.H. Yeager Company which came to Akron in 1906 and changed its name to Yeager Company in 1946. The ad shows the old name, so again, it's clearly before 1946. Judging by the lack of digits in the phone num... View More...
Blossom Music Center of Akron, Ohio has welcomed the annual summer festival of music by the Cleveland Orchestra for decades. I have been there many times and yet I have never seen this book before. There are great area ads at the front and info on Blosson, but the real core of the book is the programs bound-in from the entire 1978 season and the program notes spanning June 20th to September 8. Among the stars were guest conductor Henry Mancini, the San Francisco Ballet, and the Cleveland Orchestra Boys' Choir. Book measures 6-1/2" x 9" and is not paginated. It's very clean and tightly bound wi... View More...
Handsome red suede diploma tricked out with gold cording and a tassel. Includes some extras inside including the itinerary for the graduation ceremony, plus 13 cards showing grades for each quarter from 1966 through '67. The graduate received her diploma for successfully completing the private secretarial course (with good grades. The diploma measures 5-3/4"x9" and is very attractive on the inside as well. Only 24 people graduated in 1967, two of whom were men (business administration), and most of whom chose the private secretarial course. View More...
This is a very pretty card, completely hand colored showing the Victorian residence of one Z. Davis of North Market Street, Canton Ohio. The card was made by the Ambrotype Company, but it's a bit tricky to date it, as there is no postmark. I think the definitive clue is the divided back which was not allowed by the postal service until 1907. The card was never mailed, but reads To Nettie xxx, From Jack. Will arrive in a plastic sleeve. Many Canton,Ohio cards available. View More...
Beautiful, crisp linen postcard with sharp corners and no postal stamp or writing on divided back. The hotel entrance is on the side of the building to the right. Citizens Savings & Loan is located at street level by the light blue parked car. The photo for the card was taken by Stivas Studio. Card will arrive in a plastic sleeve. View More...
Paper addict that I am, I had never seen a book of coupons for ice coupons until I got this one. My first guess at this was WRONG, so here's an amended listing. Clue #1 was the six digit phone number which was common for urban areas from the 20's to the 50's. The second clue I missed altogether and that was the picture of the ice box on the back which dates it to the 20's or 30's! It has nothing to do with rationing and WWII. Interestingly enough, the ServICE Delivery Company of Akron, Ohio is still in the ice business. This book of coupons is unused -- no names or writing and no coupons missi... View More...
I got these two ice cream items together, so I decided to keep them that way. The first item is a leaflet advertising the Universal Ice Cream Cutting Machine manufactured by Wm. E. Kay & Sons. The leaflet measures 6" x 9" with a photo on the front and two on the back. The inside discusses the ice cream cutter's construction, size, operation, adjustment, sanitary features and a guarantee. There's also a testimonial from the Richwine Ice Cream Company. The second item is very attractive and creative from the Waldorf Ice Cream company of Akron -- all pastel colored art showing fabulous dessert... View More...
Very pretty depiction of an Akron, Ohio landmark. The card is very nice in its plastic sleeve and retains a one cent stamp which covers the manufacturer's name. Only fault is a small bit of bleed-through from the postmark visible above the roof of the house - minor. The card was sent to Lodi, Ohio and the message (with errors) is as follows: "Am feeling fine. How is the weather their? I have my sweater coat on in the house. Bertha and Charlie went to Cleveland this morning. I will half to work Monday night. Sat. night was a busy one. Be home Sat. night some time. Arthur K." View More...
Charming marriage certificate booklet printed in 1900 and used in 1913 and then given to the couple as a memento from the church in which they were married -- Trinity Lutheran of Akron, Ohio. Tied with a cord and filled with pretty period flowers and flourishes, poems, and religious admonitions. It's thirteen pages of turn-of-the century charm -- and large too at 6"x7-1/2" The clear, easy to read handwriting declares that it certifies that Henry J. Burnett and Miss Elizabeth K. Anderson were united in Holy Matrimony on the third day of December, 1913 at the minister's residence. It's signed on... View More...
Two adorable little boys with no names recorded. The photo was taken in Canton, Ohio by Parker Studio located at 104 Market Avenue. Its owner was J.B. Parker who appears on Langdon's List of 19th & Early 20th Century Photographers. He appears to have been around from 1910 to 1920, so this at least provides a guesstimate as to when this iamge was taken. One of the clues of course is the conveyance the littest guy is sitting in, but I can't find a word for it to research it! It's not a tricycle (four wheels, two small, two large) and its not a pedal car (no pedals), or a walker, or a carriage. ... View More...
I bought these items together some years ago and they just now surfaced in crisp clean condition. The photos taken at night were hard to photpgraph, but they are much nicer than they appear due to the glossy surface. They are all crisp and clean, including back, but there is no informatio on photographer. Each back is stamped with a number and there is a bit of residue from a strip of paper which may have been helpful. The photos measure 8-1/4" x 10-1/2". The booklet is wonderful -- very attractive in blue and silver throughout with much information in 20 pages. There is no date, but it's at l... View More...
Depicted in this photo is the second court house in Akron, Ohio. It was completed in 1908 and there on the steps are the first jury in the new building. The card is postmarked January 25, 1909 and was sent to Edna Stocksdale of Dundee, Ohio. The message appears to have been partially erased and is virtually unreadable. Card also shows some smudges at back, but the main problem is a horizontal crease to entire card. The good news is it's in no danger of snapping off and is not hugely noticeable. This is an uncoomin card and I have placed it in a plastic sleeve. View More...
