The Tourist Guide Book of Spain 1953 (Many maps)

By: Williamson, Herbert W. Serra

Price: $20.00

Publisher: Madrid, The Times of Spain; The British American Publishing Company: 1953

Edition: Revised Edition

Seller ID: 1943

Condition: Very Good condition

This is a hard cover travel guide to Spain in the early 1950's. It could be argued I suppose that it's more book than ephemera, but the information is as fleeting as the blue moon. Travel books, hard cover or soft, are practically the description of ephemera --when they're replaced the next year they're dead until a collector comes along decades later to awaken them. When it comes to maps this guide is an embarrassment of riches -- 18 color fold-outs bound in with town guides plus a railway map at back of book. Includes local ads and small black and white photos. Guide measures 5"x7" and has 6... View more info

I bought this book predominately because it's a first edition signed by the author. There's a couple tiny spots to the back board and creasing to the lower back corner, but the worst was what I hoped Icould fix. I gently tore off a piece of Japan paper covering the lower two inches of the spine and around to the front. It had been used to cover the loss of a small piece of the front board at the lower outer hinge. The only way to save it was to use brown book tape to the spine which you can see I did. The book measures 5-1/4" x 7" and has 133 pages with full page photographs. The text is in tw... View more info

Japanese art items call me from afar, so I was delgihted to find this handsome booklet in hard cover format. The pages are clean as a whistle, as is the cover which shows some sunning to both the spine and to the upper back corner. What's especially nice is the fact that extra goodies are hiding inside. There's a tourist leaflet about the Tokyo Museum of Folk-Crafts, plus a booklet from 1962, also published in Tokyo entitled Art Around Town with an article in English about Raku pottery. The main book is illustrated with black and white photos and one color plate for a total of 19 images. It, t... View more info
