Imagine a cruise lasting over four months, not to mention the cost of it! But this was 1929, the Golden Age of Travel, and not only were tourists offered the very finest, but their travel brochures were exciting too. In this case it's a HARDBACK book measuring 6"x9" with 96 pages, lavish sepia toned photographs and information on the many ports of call -- the Madeira Islands, Algeria, Monaco and the French Riviera, southern Italy, the Holy Land, Egypt, French Somaliland, India, Ceylon, Burma, Prince of Wales Island, Straits settlements and Malay States, French Indo-China, Java, Dutch East Indi... Though slim, this lovely clean album captures in eleven photographs a July vacation in Grayling, Michigan, known for its summer get-aways. The pictures are all of the same group, both men and women. Some views are scenic -- a lake, a bridge, a winding road, and a nice log cabin, but there are also people enjoying archery practice, women on the lake in a canoe, posed shots on the bridge, an old car stuffed with people, a shed showing three old cars lined up inside and a car with an open trailer filled with stuff outside in front of the cabin where a man observes. The album measures 6"x8-1/2" and... View more info

Nice, clean, tightly bound vintage travel brochure that's more like a short book! Measures 5-1/2"x8-3/4" and has 95 pages filled with information for various excursions with a complete itinerary day by day. Printed on quality coated paper and filled with photographs in black and white. Oddly, the booklet isn't dated, but an ad on the back shows info on the Dutch East Indian Exhibition May 15th- October 1st, 1932. View more info

Very nice clean oversized travel brochure, the covers of which show a continuous colorful picture of the pleasures of the southwest. The brochure measures 8"x9" and has 44 pages filled with history and info on the railway system and how to use it to see the sights in New Mexico and surrounding states. Brochure is printed on coated paper and is illustrated throughout with the black and white photographs. Very clean with just a discolored square at top front corner caused by an old price sticker. I love this magazine -- always so ahead of the times with stunning photography and grat articles on travel and the arts. The editors chose to showcase the wonders of Hong Kong by featuring in on the cover, but what caught my eye were articles on the French painter Chaim Soutine and a food article by Waverley Root (author of the classic Food by Waverley Root and The Food of France). Here he takes on the apple, the forbidden fruit. Realite is a top drawer magazine -- very elegant and written in Englsh. View more info

What a cute little souvenir from Estes Park, Colorado. I had one before years ago and was amazed that it came unwrapped with just a hang-tag for the address and the postage. This one's exactly the same with the same three cent stamp. The doll was glued to a piece of cardboard to resemble a Native American cradle board. Together doll and board measure approximately 4", as does the tag. One side of the tag says From Estes Park, Colorado and the other side bears an address to someone at Lodi Hospital in Lodi, Ohio. There's a postmark, but I had to get a magnifier to read the date which is 1948. V... View more info

It's a shame the upper front corner is missing from this charming and very early brochure advertising one of the finest resort hotels in the country. Normally I would pass it by because of it, but I didn't because this one is very early (the hotel was built in 1880). There is no stated date, but all it takes is a glimpse of the women guests in their big hats and long skirts and it's easy to place it at the turn of the 20th century. The engravings inside, all in brown tones, are exquisite and the lyrical prose makes you wish for time travel... "From the wide veranda over which riotous roses cla... View more info

This 1955 fishing license was issued to a man from Parma, Ohio off to Canada on an "angling vacation." The license is a small booklet which contains pertinent details about the issuee, as well as Ontario "fishery regulations" and info on the Game and Fisheries Act. It shows browning on both front and back covers, as well as a loss of the top layer of paper at the bottom back corner (small). All fishing coupons are still intact, so Mr. Martin must not have been too lucky. The coupons are very specific, each for a different type of fish and each allowing for 5 or six of most species, but only on... View more info

A very handsome color view of Cunard White Star Line's steamer the R.L.M. Berengaria. This passenger liner was originally built for the Hamburg American Lines in 1912 and christened the S.S. Imperator. During WWI it saw a small bit of service as the U.S.S. Imperator where it was put to work transporting troops home from the European theatre. After the war it was given to Cunard as part of war reparations and from then on operated as the flagship Berengaria for the final ten years of its career. The card is very nice and clean. Very nice-looking and very informative brochure which folds out to be enormous 21"x36" with a color map on one side and information and small photographs on the other. The photos front and back show two different Liverpool hotels. Advertising at face indicated that the railway was "the best way between Liverpool and London", but was also good for the midlands, Scotland, Wales and to and from Ireland. Also noted is the fact that it was the route of the LMS special trains between Liverpool and London "in connection" with Atlantic steamers. Brochure is clean and attractive with just a few small ... This a large magazine published by the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce to tout the glories of the state in hope of encouraging tourists. There's no articles -- just montages of black and white photographs designed to encourage the reader to book a trip. The magazine measures 10"x13" and is very clean with the exception of the margin at lower corner of back cover. I did gently clean it, but it's a delicate process, so I didn't get too aggressive. There is also a short tear to the bottom of the spine, but that was easy to repair with non-browning, almost invisible archival tape. I love the co... View more info

Believe it or not, this motel is still open from what I can gather. It's located near Cincinnati, Ohio in Sharonville. The card shows a clean, well-cared for place and the Triple AAA logo indicates that it had their approval. The rooms were completely air-conditioned and it was only 12 miles to downtown Cincy. There were 20 rooms with 20 baths and showers, free TV, and adjoining beautiful Sharon Woods where guests could enjoy boating, fishing, and golfing. And there were restaurants nearby too. Card has not been used and will arrive in brand new plastic sleeve. View more info

These are a lovely find if you are enchanted by the architecture of New Orleans. I've never seen this many in one place ever, but I got them from the estate of a Castleden collector. Castleden was a British artist who emigrated to New Orleans and continued his career as an artist there. The cards were aimed at the tourist trade -- ten scenes for a quarter. Three of the original envelopes will accompany them, but the cards weren't in them, so I am uncertain which belong where. The scenes are Old World beautiful and include, but are not confined to, these subjects: Pirate Alley, the monastery of... View more info
