Attractive little book -- rather a gift book, but one you could give yourself. The author delves into interior design, home organization, cooking, entertaining, home budgeting, and table decoration. There's a photo of her in her kitchen at frontis (see second photo) and other illustrations throughout, including photo and small drawings. Recipes include, but are not limited to, meatloaf, savory bread dumplings, and cocoanut cream pie. Very charming. Ad at back of book has the author endorsing Certified brand bread. This over-sized magazine is very attractive. I bought a whole box full, all of which are nice. Some are already on here, but I will be happy to look through my inventory for a specific issue from the 1890's to the first 15 years of the 1900's. The magazine measures 11-1/2" x 16" with 33 pages. There's a little bit of toning around the edges of the cover, but the pages are white. In this issue there's lots to read. Here's some examples -- Fiction; a symposium titled "What Constitutes A Good Husband" with six women sharing; a bio on novelist Mary Hartwell Catherwood who was born in Ohio, but wro... It's Fun to Buy From Forslund's Portfolio of Quaint American Furniture (1958 catalog)

By: Carl Forslund

Price: $20.00

Publisher: Grand Rapids, Michigan, Carl Forslund Inc.: 1958

Edition: 1958 Catalog

Seller ID: 3302

Condition: Very good condition

This catalog joins a list of furniture manufacturers and sellers from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. For decades they had dominated the furniture industry, but the items in this catalog are not the furniture of the 50's with its obvious modernity. Forslund's was a retro trip through colonial and rustic furniture and accessories including dishes, lamps, carpet, and more. But even within the retro look there were choices -- quaint American, Forslund farmstead, plantation pine, and American mahogany. The catalog measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 104 pages. View more info

Price: $18.00

Seller ID: 3429

Condition: Very good condition

There is a special charm to this booklet which focuses on the architecture and grounds of Biltmore. It's all about BIG, beautiful photographs with a text that's also big in print size. But the real surprise was the ticket laid-in which shows the house in full color. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 96 pages. The ticket is in excellent condition and the booklet is likewise nice, but does show a little light foxing on both sides of the cover, but none inside. The back cover also has a small ownership label in upper corner, but nothing has been written on it. View more info

The cover art on this issue is an eye-catcher. There's an article in it of dog stories, so that may be why it was chosen. This is certainly a unique art catalog. When I bought it I thought it only had an arty title to grab the imagination of viewers As it turned out, several artists spent their creativity on real domestic wallpaper -- which dos't mean it isn't arty. Andy Warhol's design is built around a pink cow! The other artists are Robert Gober, Abigail Lane, and Virgil Marti, the bios of which are at the back of the book. Gill Sanders wrote an essay titled" "How Wallpaper Left Home and Made Exhibition of Itself." The catalog was printed to accompany the exhibition at the Wexner Center for the Arts from May... This booklet is an important one for anyone interested in midcentury design and furniture. Even those who know little about it can often recognize an Eames chair. This booklet measures 7-1/2" x 10" and has 56 pages of photographs (color and black and white) plus a significant text. The only fault is one I came close to missing! The catalog is right beside me and it looks perfect. But in the "right" light you can see that someone used the cover as a desk and left behind light scratches. Otherwise it's pristine inside and out. The booklet was the first in a series of important groups of like ite... View more info

This is an interesting, if somewhat surprising, art catalog published to accompany an exhibition in Italy commemorating the 44th Venice Bienalle which began May 27 and closed September 30, 1990. Jenny Holzer hails from Gallipolis, Ohio and participated in the Italian celebration via invitation. The surprise mentioned is the lack of photos -- there are none here!-- but the descriptions of the installation, plus the writings of the author are very compelling. To see her work just Google and there's the tile floor and strips of LED lights on the walls spelling out words in bright colors.Beautifu... View more info
