I love architecture and old homes, so this catalog was a must-have. It's an enormous book used in a retail setting to show the types of moldings, fireplaces, doors, doorways, stairways, and cabinetry available for a 40's home. Huge full-page illustrations, some in black and white and some in full color -- 100 pages in all. The book is spiral bound to lie flat, but a piece of the plastic comb in missing at the very bottom of the spine. Book measures 16"x19" and is clean and nice inside and out with just a small bit of corner wear. Would be very helpful to an architect or designer, but also t... View more info

If, like me, you are wowed by early interior design booklets this one MUST be seen! Not only does it ooze vintage charm, but it also manages to look surprisingly contemporary! Believe it or not, the styles are quite adaptable to todays rooms, especially if you like a more formal look. There are gorgeous color plates, plus delicate line drawings of pretty rooms with much solid information on each page. The booklet measures 6"x9" and has 20 pages. Lovely! View more info

By: N/A

Price: $15.00

Publisher: New York, Copper and Brass Research Association: circa 1920's-30's

Seller ID: 0768

Condition: Very good

Very nice booklet oversized at 8"x10-1/2" Though clearly an advertising vehicle for the Copper and Brass Research Association, the contents are most impressive -- NOT a "fluff piece." It's illustrated throughout with both photographs and drawings with the emphasis on the use of brass and copper as an investment for the future -- copper roofs, copper leaders and gutters, brass plumbing, and copper, brass or bronze hardware. Booklet has 31 pages and is clean and tightly bound. The top front edge shows evidence of something stamped on it at one time, but is smudged. There is no date, and few clue... View more info

I have a soft spot for interior design items so of course this one jumped right into my hand! Its very attractive with a green suede-like cover printed in gilt at face. The paper is coated and the pictures are quite lovely -- vignettes of rooms showing windows augmented by curtain hardware used as decoration. Judd did't sell window treatments -- they sold upscale window hardware. The booklet measures 6"x9-3/4" and 32 illustrated pages. Each spread describes (much text) something different such as cornices and swinging cranes, how to decorate windows in specific rooms, how to pleat drapes, and ... View more info

Publisher: Chicago, Illinois, Edison General Electric Appliance Co.: 1944

Very interesting catalog of choices for the home-buyer or remodeler. The electric kitchen is the theme, but this booklet provides many options. The first few pages focus on specific sections of the kitchen -- i.e. storage and food mixing, and dish washing. One spread offers suggestions for houses costing $4000 to $6000. There are also pages of laundry rooms and pantries, drawings of the products, and info on a kitchen planning services. All pages are in full color and provide helpful drawings. In some regards it's hard to imagine that this was printed during the WWII era. Booklet measures 7-1... View more info

This is one of those consumer catalogs which derive from a central place and are printed with the names and addresses of local distributors. In this instance it was the Carter-Jones Lumber Company of Akron, Ohio. These designs must have had consumers pining for pink cabinets, breakfast bars, rounded mixing corners, dishwashers, decorative shelving, spacious eating areas, plentiful storage and even islands. Each design is in full color with a small architectural drawing and a description. Thirteen designs in all, plus a two page work sheet (unused) consisting of cut-outs and a grid to lay out y... This is an oversized booklet measuring 9" x 12" with 81 clean, tightly bound pages. The only faults are some toning to a few areas of the white back cover and former owner's name and address in upper front corner of first page. The booklet is lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs of the interiors and exteriors of some of the island's most stunning residences at the time of writing, many of which were already 300 years old! Very nice, clean, tightly bound publication with a strong focus on the technology of the electric fountains. There are black and white full-page photographs of the various designs, but the best part is the technical drawings, many of which are fold-outs. The booklet measures 8-1.2" x 11". It's very clean and tightly bound with two small tears to side edge of front cover which I repaired on the back with small pieces of archival tape which doesn't brown. Booklet is not often seen. This is more dream book than working catalog because it was printed while WWII raged on. The Crane Company knew there would be no building or remodeling until after Victory Day, but they also knew that people had stockpiled lots of war bonds for later. It was a good move because it sparked both creativity and interest while consumers waited. The booklet is filled with kitchens, baths, and heating and plumbing items. It measures 8-1/4" x 11" and has 21 colorful pages with only a few in black and white. Also laid-in is a booklet of the same size which shows many choices in various categories. E... View more info

The cover art of these magazines scream "come hither!" They're bold, colorful and graphically sensational. I was at an auction which had six boxes of them.To say they were a hit is an understatement -- they sold in a frenzy for more money than they should have. I got the last box, which was as good as the rest, but at the end of the frenzy. There's much to read here about homes and gardens with gorgeous full color ads for house items -- roofs, tiles, paints etc.. One of the more interesting stories is about the scissor craft of silhouette making and William Henry Brown who long ago snipped ou... View more info

I love when a nice ephemera item is hiding extras on the same subject. I bought the main booklet and -- surprise! -- I got two extra small booklets about kitchens and entrances and a letter from the company. Home builders knew that after the war there would be many people, especially veterans, yearning for a home of their own. The building trade started early to feed the pent-up desire, but by the time this advertising came out the end of the war was only a year away -- 1945. The yellow pamphlets measures 3-1/2" x 6-1/4". The large booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 15 pages covering windo... View more info

This early Nu-Wood advertising booklet is very clean and nice and quite interesting from the point of view of homeowners and contractors. The company offered more than ceilings and walls. Buyers could get tiles, plank board, wainscot, Kolor-Trim and accessories and moldings. There is a lot of information here, including its use in the building of churches -- which is how I came to have it. I bought this from a company which is still in the business of church renovation inside and out. The boioklet measures 8-1/2" x 10-1/2" and has 30 pages with many photos. not often seen View more info

I acquired this along with several other booklets advertising the dream of a new or renovated home after WWII. Most of them were dated a little closer to the end of the war -- this one is earlier at 1943. The goal was to assuage the pent-up desire with the promise of new items, new technologies, new homes. The charming French house on the first spread is the perfect opener, even if too small by today's standards. The booklet offers much information on kitchens, insulation, entrance doors, farm buildings and much more. It measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 22 pages and sports a nice Cleveland, Ohio a... Nice oversized booklet about glass tile walls for bathrooms and kitchens. The top section of the cover is silver with white printing, so it's a bit hard to see the printing, but it's there and readable. Some of the ideas inside are amazingly ahead of their time, especially the baths with extra built-in storage. 1934 looked pretty good! The Carrara glass provided a nice backdrop too, especially since every page is in full color. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11-1/2" with 16 pages. View more info

This is a marriage of two magazines -- Arts & Decoration and The Spur. The Spur was quite large (I have some issues listed here), but the combined magazine is slimmer and smaller at 10" x 12-1/2" with 50 pages. Subjects include the police dog, horses and equestrian sport in the Carolinas, golf in the Bahamas, valley ranching in Wyoming, American crafts, rugs and mirrored walls. View more info
