Very nice clean, tightly bound magazine with a complete spine stip. The yapped edges have been trimmed, but they did their job keeping the pages pristine. The advertising at both front and back is fun in itself, but there's also much to read, including four complete pieces of fiction. There's two articles about beauty -- one as related to actresses (who out-earned their male counterparts)and also beauty and the 50 year old woman. Other topics include police systems in Europe, The Young Napoleon, and Von Lenbach the painter. View more info

I was so happy to find a copy of this magazine still hanging on to the overhang known as the yapped edge. They always get tiny tears, but some end up falling off in spots and then are clipped by the owner. This one has the tiny tears, but they've been repaired by me with discreet archival tape. This is a good issue too with two stories by well known authors -- "A Christmas Courtship" by Edith Wharton and illustrated by Rose Cecil O'Neill, the artist who gave us the kewpie doll; and "A Christmas Surrender" by Ralph Henry Barbour. Articles cover these topics: New York City's Wonders in 1909; Ca... View more info

So many famous names in this issue! Pearl Buck begins with an article titled "Easter 1933." Next comes an Edna Ferber story titled "Keep It Holy"; an article about Walter Winchell by Alexander Woolcott; and Temple Bailey's serial Enchanted Ground Part IV. Other items of interest include an article about gold discovery, a world-wide symposium about religion and if it was fading; and a complete mystery novel titled "Penthouse" by Arthur Somers Roche. This is nice magazine, tightly bound with just a few faults -- two tears to bottom of spine and some darkening to the area. I glued both and added ... View more info

This issue of Cosmo paired with Hearst is a literary gem. It looks like the editor pulled out all the stops and let the literature roll on. Here's the whole list of authors appearing here with a short story: Sinclair Lewis, Fannie Hurst, Irvin S. Cobb, W. Somerset Maugham, Rupert Hughes, Faith Baldwin, Rafael Sabatini, Holworthy Hall, Elinor Glyn, George Ade, Virginia Dale, O.O. McIntyre. John Held Jr., and W.B. Seabrook. There's a lot of stories, but there' also some nonfiction, one of which I read -- a true story by a woman who was condemned to be hung for a murder she didn't commit. The mag... View more info

The Cosmopolitan Magazine September, 1903 (Civil War Jubal A. Early; Sir Thomas Lipton America's Cup; Elbert Hubbard)

Price: $18.00

This is an especially great issue, as there are THREE major pieces -- an article by Sir Thomas Lipton about his efforts to win the America's Cup; an article about the well-known Confederate Jubal A. Early; and A Study of the Servian Tragedy by Elbert Hubbard. All are illustrated. There is a lot to read here including, but not limited to, architecture as a profession, the education of a debutante, and How to Win A Man by Lavinia Hart. There's also a mistake on the contents page which is the front cover -- I'll let you discover it! The magazine is clean as a whistle tightly bound and retains it... View more info

It must have been a happy day when this issue turned up in the mail. It's like having a book and a magazine all in one. Rex Beach, a popular writer of the day, has a complete novel here titled "Padlock: A Novel About Today's Morals." But what's really good is the list of well-known authors. Theodore Roosevelt tells the story of the journey he and his family took to "unknown Asia." Rebecca West had a provocative title for her submission -- "I, Rebecca West, Regard Marriage With Fear and Horror!" The others include Somerset Maugham's, "The Great Man"; Kathleen Norris's No. VIII in her serial nov... View more info
