Alice (1992 Opera)

By: N/A

Price: $34.00

Publisher: Hamburg, Germany, Thalia Theatre: 1992

Seller ID: 1494

Condition: Good-plus

An uncommon item, published in tandem with the opening of the dark opera, Alice, which is based on Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The lyrics probe not the story as much as how it pertains to its author. Was not intended for children. Inside front cover (see photo two) is a small drawing signed by its artist. I can't decipher the first namel, but I do believe the last name is Zinn. I immediately thought of David Zinn who does have a history with the Thalia Theatre, but I can't say for sure that this is right. Research shows no account of him having anything to do with the set design for ... View more info

Price: $25.00

Publisher: New York, RKO Palace Theatre: 1956

Seller ID: 1517

Condition: Very Good

Very nice clean program which is more leaflet than booklet, but not too often seen. It's not a play, more of a review with a number of different acts including the Amin Brothers, Paul Sydell, Joe Smith and Charlie Dale, Giselle and Francois Szony. Alan King (comedian), and primarily -- JUDY GARLAND! There's info about each act, but Judy takes center stage. Measures 6"x9" and is clean with no tears and no names. It was folded vertically at one time, but is totally flat now. Very nice. View more info

Oversized magazine with a wonderful cover graphic. It measures 10"x 13-1/4 and has 33 pages. The back shows a mailing label discreetly placed in the area designed for it and there is also a bit of edge wear to the spine area, none of which impinges of the integrity of the binding. If you graduated from BW in 1967 or were at the Alumni party the same year there's lots of memories in this one. There's also an article about BW's admired Conservatory and the cover and fold-out celebrate the art of Felix de Weldon, the artist pictured beneath the enormous horses on the cover. There's also BW sports... View more info

Here we have two brochures from Finocchio's, a popular club which was located in San Francisco. It began as a speakeasy during Prohibition, then morphed into a club with lavish shows featuring female impersonators once it was legal to serve alcohol again. The green and white brochure measures 6" x 7-1/4" and opens to three times that size showing individual performer pictures. It was designed to be mailed as a souvenir, but it was not. The smaller brochure measures 4" x 7-1/2" and opens to twice that. This one shows drink prices on the reverse side. Scotch was $1.15 and bourbon, gin, vodka,... View more info

This is a hefty, significant program -- more book than booklet! But the event was so enormous it's worthy of the paper used to print it. Saengerfest was a national song festival which consisted of five concerts held over three days to accommodate the HUGE crowds. Twenty-six trains were charted just to bring in the thousands of PARTICIPANTS. The Cleveland schools also contributed singers. The event was also a commemoration of the centenary of the death of Beethoven. The program measures 7-3/4" x 10-1/4" and is very tightly bound with complete spine strip. It's relatively easier to find Earl Carroll ephemera from his California night club days than it is from his earlier NYC theatre. But here we have a program from his seventh Follies, this time featuring the famous W.C. Fields. The program has very nice ads and lot of photos of the performers including a large picture of Fields. What's also fun is a close-up article about Carroll's eccentricities, of which there were many! The program measures 9"x12" and has 25 pristine pages. Nice quality item, clean and tightly bound with just a tiny abrasion to front cover. View more info

Do you hear strains of Barry Manilow warbling "At the Copa, Copacabana ..."? Yes, this Copa is THAT Copa. I must say though that I'm surprised at the rather folksy look of this advertising mailer. The Copacabana, after all, was noted for its sparkly, pink haired Copa Girls. They're here all right, but this time in a "gay review" titled How To Parry A Millionaire starring Betty & Jean Kean with Norman Brooks, The Dunhills, Jonathan Lucas and Herb Fields. This, too surprises me because everybody who was anybody sang there -- Harry Bellefonte, Peggy Lee, Danny Thomas, Dean Martin etc. etc.. Also ... View more info

Very nice entertainment magazine devoted to nighttime pleasures including dining and dancing, but especially theatre. It's oversized at 10"x14" and has 116 pages. Lots to read, but I think the main story is Men At Work, a lengthy look at musical greats George Kaufman, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. Another fun p0iece is about going to Russia to make the rounds of the Russian theaters. Also of interest are the story of the musical White Horse Inn,T he Alchemy of Music, and the New York Angle on World Wide Fashion. The subscription card is unused and still bound it and there is no mailing label. View more info

The cherry on the cake is the entire ticket-- not just the stub. It's an adult ticket for Gund Arena, Cleveland, Ohio May 16, 2003 at 7:30 p.m.. and shows a price of $79.75. This is not a program -- it's a homage and an oversized one at 12" x 15-1/2". Pages are clean and tightly bound, but there is some edge wear at spots to both side of cover. Price has been lowered accord8ngly. View more info

This is a very handsome cabinet card produced by the Art Studio of S. Kiefer of Portsmouth, Ohio. The subject is wearing a band uniform, but the only guess as to what band it was is the word on his hat. I used a magnifying glass to read "Civic" which could mean that he played in the town band. At any rate, someone penned the date on the front of the card -- October 2, 1890. The studio that made this must have been upscale, as the sides of the card are scalloped and colored in gilt. The back of the card is lovely too -- it's a shame that a former seller had placed two stickers on the back --on... View more info

Outstanding cover design and lots of photos inside showing the various acts at the Moulin Rouge Fantastic. Some are in color, others in black and white, but both show the grandness of the show. The program is in French, but it isn't hard to get the gist. It's a very attractive keepsake from the legendary cabaret of Montmarte. The program is viewed vertically at first glance, but is turned horizontally to read it. It measures 8-1/2" x 10-3/4" and has 21 counted pages. Very clean and nice. (ENT.-2) View more info
