John Brown Homestead, Akron, Ohio Postcard 1913

By: N/A

Price: $8.00

Publisher: 1913

Seller ID: 0092

Condition: Very Good

Very pretty depiction of an Akron, Ohio landmark. The card is very nice in its plastic sleeve and retains a one cent stamp which covers the manufacturer's name. Only fault is a small bit of bleed-through from the postmark visible above the roof of the house - minor. The card was sent to Lodi, Ohio and the message (with errors) is as follows: "Am feeling fine. How is the weather their? I have my sweater coat on in the house. Bertha and Charlie went to Cleveland this morning. I will half to work Monday night. Sat. night was a busy one. Be home Sat. night some time. Arthur K." View more info

Taylor Inn, Lodi, Ohio Postcard

By: N/A

Price: $9.95

Publisher: Germany, Unknown

Seller ID: 0124

Very bight and clean postcard which was filled out but never sent. The message is funny because Lodi is still a very small town and has no hotel at all these days. The card was addressed to Miss Lura Sheehan Alliance, Ohio. On the other side of the dividing line it reads "Hello, Lura -- You will think I have died, but I am very much alive. Now will you make fun of Lodi when we have a hotel like this? Come up if you don't believe it is truly here. Blanche." View more info

This charming color scene is one that's rarely found of the Club House at Turkeyfoot Lake, Akron, Ohio which was a summer resort. Look closely and you can see women in pastel dresses amongst the trees. The card was never used and, as you can see, shows no edge wear or creasing. It has a divided back and stamp box shows the cost of postage as a penny for domestic, island possessions, Canafa, Cuba, Mexico and Panama and two cents for overseas. View more info

Real Photo Postcard Newport High School Football Team

By: N/A

Price: $26.95

Seller ID: 0188

Condition: Good

I puzzled over this one, as it does not say WHAT Newport Football High School team this is. I doubt greatly it's Rhode Island. In fact, given the barn in the background, and the fact that it came from an Ohio collection I would bet on Newport, Ohio. Check out the two guys with the Mohawks! Anyway, it's an interesting picture with a small crease to the lower left corner and spots of isolated edge wear. It was never sent in the mail and there is no message. It's printed on AZO photographic paper and the symbols on the stamp box date it from 1904-1918. View more info

Are we having fun yet? Every time I look at this card I have to laugh. Five tourists aboard a fake boat in the arcade at the site of Ohio's grand amusement park and not a smile in the bunch, including the two clutching teddy bears! Still, this is one of my all-time favorite real photos! It was never sent, there's no stamp, no writing and no edgewear. Photo was printed on AZO photographic paper. View more info

Such a pleasant-looking lady, seemingly small in stature, yet wearing an enormous hat which looks like it's wearing her! But she still manages to be pretty and her locket and lacy dress are charming. This card was never sent. In the lower right hand corner there is an embossed name and address of the studio which took the picture, but some of the raised letters have disappeared with no loss of color, oddly enough. What I can make out is "East ---- Studio, 225 E. Main, Newark, Ohio. Card shows a light crease to lower corner where the studio address is and a touch of wear to the tip of the corne... Very handsome group shot of the members of the Old Settlers, which was most likely comprised of the descendants of the early pioneers who settled in Brunswick, Medina County, Ohio. The printing on the card shows the date August 13, 1910. They appear to be grouped in front of a church with everyone decked out in their finery. Especially charming are the little girls in the front row at the far right. The card is in very good condition save a gray stain to reverse side of divided back. View more info

Twenty people on a hay wagon and the poor horse get short-shrift, but what a fun real photo postcard. It was even taken by a photography studio. On the space provided beneath the image the sender wrote, Hello, Sister! How does this look? Sadie." When you flip the card over you find THREE postmarks -- the original comes from Gracey, Ohio followed by Caldwell, Ohio and finally to it's destination in Chandlersville, Ohio. The recipient was Mary Mason. Oh, and look closely -- Sadie put a small "x" on her dress so you can find her! View more info

The booklet is crisp and clean as new, but shows no publishing information. Inside, however, we found a beautiful sepia postcard pg Garfield Memorial at Lake View postmarked, February 8, 1909, Cleveland, Ohio. The divided back shows this message, "Regards from the Rabensteins Cleveland, Ohio, Bill." The address portion reads, Miss Anna Kiefler c/o Telephone Exchange, Cincinnati, Ohio Sta. L.. The booklet measures 6-1/4"x9-1/4" and has nine pages of text and photographs. It's clearly much newer than the postcard, but we found them together and they augment one another -- so together they stay! View more info

By: N/A

Price: $6.99

Publisher: Chicago, Curteich: 40's-50's

Seller ID: 0613

Condition: Fine

Saturated color and a glimpse of a vibrant shopping area makes this Canton, Ohio vintage postcard desirable. The card has not been postally used and has no writing on it. Crisp and clean. Though it says "shopping center" on the card it's not the typical strip mall, but rather a center comprise ofcollective stores. I can make out the names of two -- Woolworth's and McCreary's. If it's the McCreary's I think it is it was a department store. The card will arrive in a plastic sleeve. View more info

Attractive card in full color of downtown Wellington, Ohio. The card is postally unused and there is no writing, so we have nothing concrete to date it. However, if you look closely you can see horse drawn wagons on both sides of the street. The sign on the building in the forefront on the left side says Cheese. This is no surprise though because Wellington billed itself as The Cheese Empire of the World. Beautiful card with saturated color and crisp paper. Will arrive in plastic sleeve. View more info

This is a very pretty card, completely hand colored showing the Victorian residence of one Z. Davis of North Market Street, Canton Ohio. The card was made by the Ambrotype Company, but it's a bit tricky to date it, as there is no postmark. I think the definitive clue is the divided back which was not allowed by the postal service until 1907. The card was never mailed, but reads To Nettie xxx, From Jack. Will arrive in a plastic sleeve. Beautiful card, hand colored and dated 1905. Beneath the printed words on the face a previous owner wrote "On board August the 8th, 1906." The card has not been used for mailing or for messages. The only fault is some toning to the back because it was laid-in against a scrapbook page, but was never pasted. The Arrow took passengers to the islands from 1895 to 1922 when it burned in the dock at Put-In-Bay. View more info

I have had many Taylor Inn cards over the years, but never this one. Not only is it a real photo (and is even marked as such), but it also shows a woman walking on the street trailing a fancy dress in her wake -- which is rather surprising given that Lodi was a small agrcultural town. The two appendages in the front to the right of the awning that says DRUGS (which I don't recall seeing before either) are two awninged bays fitted with masses of flowers in boxes. The card is postmarked Sept, 24, 1910 and was sent to Mrs. B. Kennedy of Summit Street, Akron, Ohio. The message reads, "Another chic... View more info
