This is the last year of the Spur's tall format. In 1940 everything changed. Already this one from 1939 was down to a monthly, rather than a twice a month publication. but it still bills itself as "A Magazine of the Good Things in Life." There are some good things here too -- there's big articles about the Kentucky Derby, Lei Day in Hawaii, and the ever-growing sight of fishing ships in New Bedford. There's also society stories, a piece on Shirley Temple, dogs, fox hunting and more. The color ads include Packard, Lincoln Zephyr, Grace Line Caribbean-South American Cruises. These older booklets are getting hard to find, so when this one popped up I took the offer. The booklet is overall nice, and tightly bound. It measures 6" x 9" and has 38 pages with a dense text and many black and white pohotographs throughout. The text covers equipment, markmanship, ranges and rifle clubs. The defects are these: two creases to the lower front corner which I "bandaged" with archival tape on the inside to keep it from snapping off and a name and address on the back cover. There is is also some faint penciling there, but it's very light. View more info

This is an astounding advertising promo package. The folder is clean and attractive and opens both front and back where many items await. The left one holds the loose items in a plastic bag -- four green $10 bonus oickets, a notebook pad for a $40.00 prize and a large sticker and single sheets with info on new firearms, plus a brochure about the rebate. The center of this folder shows seven answers about the sale by lifting the tags. The back part of the folder has lots more adverttising, but there's also a very nice 1983 catalog. And there's even a plastic pocket "thing" to keep ink from rui... View more info

I've never seen this publication prior to these, but they're in wonderful condition. Given the newspaper format most were probably discarded after reading and/or storing. John Bodine Match and Friendship Through International Shooting; Hunting Africa With the Sharps; and Photographs by L.S. Huffman in Tribute to the Montana Statehood Centennial 1889-1989.
