Very nice clean program which shows the schedule for the entire summer of music and theatre at Chautauqua during the summer of 1942, as well as articles and photographs of the performers. Measures 8-1/2"x 11-1/4" and has 32 pages. There is a vertical crease down the center from having been folded, as so many programs were, but the crease is light. What's interesting about this particular one is the stuff I found inside. The previous owner was a young woman, Elizabeth Lorson, from Wooster, Ohio who was in New York City hoping to be taken on by a voice trainer of merit. Someone from back home wr... View more info

I like this little booklet very much, but was thrilled when I got it home and saw the back cover which contains a lengthy note from the previous owner. I love how she/he read Jasper Johns and came away with ideas for creating original art too. The note reads, "Maybe 14"x21. Start a book a la Jasper Johns -- in place of a journal. Draw, paint what I feel as a means of getting myself back again -- call it reclamation. Consult Julia re size of paper for binding later. Keep it very SIMPLE -- use symbols! Get down inside deep. Could use scanner, copier, computer etc. -- collage!" How fabulous that ... View more info

Very nice clean booklet which tells a fascinating tale. George Whythe may not be a household name, but he was a big deal in colonial America -- first American law professor, abolitionist, noted classics scholar, Virginia judge, and the first of the seven Virginia signers of the United States Declaration of Independence. He also served as representative in the Continental Congress and at the Constitutional Convention.AND he taught and mentored to Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, and Henry Clay. So when he turned up murdered it was no small mater. The booklet solves the case with 64 detailed pag... View more info

Vintage baby books have such a sweet charm that I am impelled to buy them, especially if they haven't been used as this one has not. I suspect this came in a box and all the publishing info was on that rather than in the book. But it does indicate that the art was produced by "the Hendersons"! The pastel art is evocative of the times and appears on every one of the 24 pages. The moire fabric is clean and bright on both boards and the contents are pristine. Only fault is some light foxing to bottom edge of back pastedown. Vintage baby books make fun gifts for showers for moms who love the lure ... View more info

This is small collection of Catholic religious items given to a child named Willie Monroe from Mamma Lee on the occasion of his First Communion which took place on Pentecost Sunday May 29, 1898. This is one of the most elegant booklets I've ever seen. The subject, Albert W. In its day this was a very popular magazine. It's still popular with me, but I never seem to find many issues. This one covers the department stores of the day, a travel piece on taking a European vacation, replete with lots of full color illustrations and, --the best of all -- a long article about women novelists, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte and George Sands. All of them have stood the test of time and Jane is practically a rock star! The ads in this magazine are even fun to read, and not all of them are about books. There's wonderful ads about player pianos and phonographs --technology galo... View more info

Andy Warhols' magazines are so much fun to read. I love when some come my way and right now I have several. This one features Joan Collins, but there's also interviews with many celebrities with an emphasis on TV personalities including David Letterman, Tom Brakow, Peter Jennings and Barbara Walters. Huge magazine -- measures 11"x17". The text is clean as is the cover, though spine area and back cover do show some browning. There were also a few small tears at top and a circular tear at bottom. Both were repaired by me with archival tape. The lower one still suffers from a small paper loss. ... View more info

This magazine is a little salacious for the times -- check out those buzzwords --Tempted! One Night of Passion! They must have been popular though because there are many others of this ilk. This issue looks almost unread and is tightly bound with no labels. There are two short novels "They Called Me Bad" and "This Man Is Mine", plus six short stories and several "romance clinics" which are articles about beautiful hands, why men lose their virility, sex hormones for allergies, the premature baby; and fashionable shoes. the magazine measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 90 dense pages. I thought this 1976 recruitment advertising might be pretty common, but it appears to be just the opposite. It's clever, but in a way seems somewhat against the tide of the Women's Liberation Movement of the 70's. The paper dolls are strung together and folded accordion style. The covers asks "What Kind of Dolls are Choosing Mary Kay Cosmetics as a Career?" Inside (on both sides) it showcases 15 top consultants who collectively earned three-quarters of a million dollars selling make-up. The idea was to show the diversity of the consultants -- club woman, educator, artist, two minister's wives,... View more info

What a surprise find this morning! This is a beautiful litle gift book perfect to tuck in the Christmas stocking of a historian. The book is crisp and clean as new. The only fault is a tiny tear to the top front edge of the jacket.
