Handsome and hard-to-find! This oversized booklet commemorates the 60th anniversary of Highland Hall, an evangelical Christian boarding school for young women founded in 1867 by a Presbyterian minister, Rev. David H. Barron. I wish I could provide more information on this pretty little Catholic prayer book published in Czechoslavkia, but I have only the bare bones. It's made of celluloid and decorated at edges of reverse sides of both front and back covers with pretty gold and white dentelles and page edges are gilded on all three sides. Other than the cover art there are no additional images. No names or writing either. Measures 2-1/4"x3-1/2" and has 256 pages. View more info

A wonderful history with black and white photographs. Booklet measures 6"x9" and has 44 pages of text. Booklet is very clean inside with no names or writing. Only fault is toning to spine area at front and a couple small light stains to same area. Overall nice. View more info

Nice copy, clean and tightly bound. Retains pledge sheet and envelope for remitting money to the Defense Committe. Small bit of staining around staples and light soil to back -- overall quite good with pristine pages. A 64 page report on the famous case involving Rev. John Howard Melish, who had been rector at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights, New York for 45 years before being ousted due to the leftist leanings of his son and associate rector, Rev. William Howard Melish. A major thrust of the defense was that the Church had insinuated itself into the relationship b... View more info

Cute little boy all spiffed up on First Communion Day. Sadly, he is lost to time -- no name, just the clue from the photography studio that he was from the Cleveland area. The knickers date him to the early 1900's. On the table next to him he's holding his little black prayer book which was the emblem of the occasion. Very handsome composition in sepia. The folder which turns into an easel for display is clean and seemingly unused. The only fault is browning to the deckled edges of the paper mounted beind the mat. The image itself measures 4"x6" and is exquisitely "framed" in a textured metall... View more info

Oddly enough, this is a rather hard to find magazine even though it encompassed alumni from all the federation's colleges in the United States and Canada. The magazine was published just twice a year. There are two ads at front, a color one for Gorham Silver and a rather plain one for Tiffany's. All others ads are at the back. This issue devotes a great many pages to "our saint", Saint Magdalena Sophia. Articles cover her sainthood, her life, her visit to Reidenberg, her life as an educator, and her supplementary works. Other articles include memoirs, a trip to Arcadie, the lost art of lette... View more info

Very clean and tightly bound cookbook published to raise money for the church's building fund. There is no date for it, so I tried to do a little sleuthing, but the only church with that precise name was building in the 1960's and this booklet precedes that by decades. I then tried looking up the businesses which supplied ads, but again, not much luck. The only company that appeared was the C.H. Yeager Company which came to Akron in 1906 and changed its name to Yeager Company in 1946. The ad shows the old name, so again, it's clearly before 1946. Judging by the lack of digits in the phone num... View more info

Small Bibles were often lost, but this one is quite the exception. There are SIX entries written at the front, all from the 19th century. The Bible is very small, but it is technically not a miniature book as it measures 3" across and 4-1/2" tall. As you can see, the cover is worn, but the wear pattern is attractive, as this was a much used book and brings with its history every name and every blemish. There used to a flap to close it, but the mechanism has broken off. And yet somehow the pages are tightly bound and in very nice condition. The first entry is in pencil and very faint now, but t... This is small collection of Catholic religious items given to a child named Willie Monroe from Mamma Lee on the occasion of his First Communion which took place on Pentecost Sunday May 29, 1898. Other items include: two felt ovals with paper labels reading St. Gerard Patron of Mothers and Apostleship of Prayer in League with the Sacred Heart; a small medal showing Mary, the Mother of Jesus, on a blue ribbon attached to a paper doily; an... Were it not for an old price sticker which damaged a small area between the T and Y at the top of the title on front cover, this magazine would be very good. It's illustrated throughout and covers myriad articles including: The Freedom of the Press Endangered; A Visit to a Dutch Prison; Increasing Church Attendance By Law; James Madison on a Modern Problem; An Inadequate Remedy for Religious Intolerance; Should the State Teach Religion?; Fundamental Principles of Religious Liberty; Spain and Religious Liberty; and America a Beacon-Li... This is a lovely magazine from Trinity Church, which was built in 1180 with additions built in the 13th and 15th centuries. Someone likely visited on vacation in the summer of 1957 and tucked it away in a suitcase. The local ads are charming and there is information about church events, pictures of the church, a page for women (about housekeeping)and rosters of names which might be of interest to those from the area. The clergy consisted of Rev. S. Tetley and Rev. R.J. Foster. Magazine is clean and tightly stapled, but does show thinning of the paper at the lower corners of the cover. It meas... View more info

Condition: Very good

I bought this at an estate sale along with a small stack of other attractive prints depicting various landmarks of Omaha, Nebraska. The odd thing is there's no information other than the site and its origin. The churches pictured here are identified beneath them beginning at the top left and moving clockwise -- Trinity Cathedral, Central United Presbyterian, Kountze Memorial and First Baptist. The print is on heavy card stock and is clean and attractive. Only fault is a tiny loss of paper at the lower right corner, but this would not be seen once framed. The print measures 7-3/4"x9".
