If you are interested in Pennsylvania German genealogy this magazine is a goldmine. I have more (a fairly good sized stack), so if there's one you're seeking use the contact button and I'll see what I have. This one has an especially attractive cover which depicts a Pennsylvania Dutch Virgin Mary. Contents include a study of a Pennsylvania German broadside from the 18th & 19th centuries entitled "A Sorrowful Song About A Terrible Murder"; Pennsylvania church history; a study of a document which sought a pastor in 1731; the career of Lutheran minister, Johann Valentin Krafft; and the ordination... Small Bibles were often lost, but this one is quite the exception. There are SIX entries written at the front, all from the 19th century. The Bible is very small, but it is technically not a miniature book as it measures 3" across and 4-1/2" tall. As you can see, the cover is worn, but the wear pattern is attractive, as this was a much used book and brings with its history every name and every blemish. There used to a flap to close it, but the mechanism has broken off. And yet somehow the pages are tightly bound and in very nice condition. The first entry is in pencil and very faint now, but t... This is a fairly scarce booklet in above average condition.Pages are pristine with no names or writing. Uthe only fault is light toinign at spine area and a few small spot to back near spine. This booklet would be of interest to people with a relative from Cuyahoga, Lorain, or Medina County who served in the American Revolution. Each soldier is named along with the name of the cemetery in which he is buried if known. Some entries have quite a bit of biographical information and others are minimal. This is not something that would turn up too often, but I bought it from the estate of an American professor who taught there for some time in the 50's. It's very clean with just some light toning around the edges of the cover, front and back, with complete toning to spine from sun. It's tightly bound and measures 7"x9-3/4" and has 161 pages. What's excellent about it is the wide range of dates -- 1870 to 1957-- which means its helpful to a lot of people, especially those who are looking for someone without knowing exactly what years they were there. Nice genealogical item. View more info

This is small collection of Catholic religious items given to a child named Willie Monroe from Mamma Lee on the occasion of his First Communion which took place on Pentecost Sunday May 29, 1898. The items were grouped together in a beat-up envelope, but the contents are absolutely pristine. The information stated was found on the back of the holy card. Other items include: two felt ovals with paper labels reading St. Gerard Patron of Mothers and Apostleship of Prayer in League with the Sacred Heart; a small medal showing Mary, the Mother of Jesus, on a blue ribbon attached to a paper doily; an... As you can see, the cover shows dampstain, but fortunately it appears much less on the blue endpapers inside the catalog. I might have passed it by if I didn't know how hard it can be to find these old school catalogs which are interesting and also helpful with family genealogy. There is also some foxing on the photo fold-out at the front and at the back of the book -- anywhere that the paper is coated. The bulk of the catalog is NOT on coated paper though, so it is showing no foxing. This school is still in operation and traces its beginnings to the 19th century. The catalog provides the na... Attractive booklet commemorating a church located in Remson Corners in Medina County, Ohio. The booklet is wonderful for family tree building as there are many names -- both early founders and members in 1943 when the booklet was published. It measures 6"x9" and has 12 pages printed on quality coated paper. I have included a few photogrpahs here, but there also photos of the congregation and choir in 1943. the booklet is bound with original gold cording and comes with a program for October 31, 1943 which was dedicated to the anniversary of the church. Yes, this is a hard cover book, but it's one of those things that tend to get tossed as soon as the new version shows up. Wadsworth was a small town in 1946 (smaller than now) so the book measures just 6-1/2" x 9-1//4" and has 290 pages. Wonderful for genealogy, but also a nice Ohio collectible. There's several sections -- a business directory and phone number service and a telephone directory for privte citizens. View more info

This book is not seen as often as you would think. I had one ten years ago and just now got this one. It was rather inexpensively put together, but it's a genealogical gold mine with fifty biographies of Clevelanders of the day. It's comprised of a group of articles reprinted in book form. They were originally written for the Sunday Cleveland Plain Dealer and appeared throughout March, April and May, 1944. Surnames included are: Black Cary, Case, Champion, Chapin, Codrington, Coe, Collens, Cox, Crawford, Dunn, Eaton, Eide, Emerson, Frackleton, Gerhauser, Girdler, Gund, Harshaw, Holliday, Hood,... I thought when I bought a couple of these magazines that the McCleary Sanitarium in Excelsior Springs, Missouri was for TB patients, but alas it was not. Dr. A.S. McCleary founded the sanitarium in 1901 for people with gastro-intestinal problems. His specialty though was curing hemorrhoids without surgery and his well advertised promise that if he failed to do so patients didn't have to pay. Surprisingly, the sanitarium stayed open until 1974. The magazine was sent to former patients and perspective ones and is actually rather interesting, especially if you have family members who worked or st... View more info

Very clean and handsome yearbook for the Class of 1916 at Medina High School, Medina, Ohio. The previous owner kept track of name changes for the girls as they married, so this is especially helpful for anyone working on Medina genealogy. of course the lower classes are given a nod too, but most of the focus is on the seniors as expected. There are club and sport pictures and info, plus alumni lists (going back to 1876) and great local ads. Really nice graphics and a sense of humor also makes it a fun keepsake. I've lived in Medina for a lot of years, but never have I seen an older Medina High School yearbook, but now I have one from 1916, this one, and a short stack of others -- all older. So if you're looking for a speicific year let me know and I'll see if I have it. Interestingly, the school colors were gray and red then instead of today's green and white. The yearbook measures 8" x 10-1/2" and has 80 pages. Very tightly bound and nicely kept. Long-time Medinians will recognize MANY old family names, including: Ziegler, Fenn, Kellogg, Claggett, Gerspacher, Oberholtzer, Navatril, and Batchhelder -... View more info
