From its pictorial silver and blue card cover to its photographs, information, and nice graphics this one's a keeper. It's clean and tightly bound with pristine pages, measures 9" x 12" and has 24 counted pages. The funny part is there's a letter laid-in from the Museum to a Dean at Case Western Reserve University which was edited by the recipient! The booklet was produced as a Collaborative Project of the Carnegie Institute, Dia Center for the Arts, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Very nice!

I haven't seen these quirky little magazines since I first started in business 19 years ago. So I'm pretty tickled to find them again. Houghton just celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. To celebrate they printed a special issue of the popular magazine which was closed down in 2008. These 13 I have now are nice and clean, all identical in format and design -- just different accent colors. Atwater Radio Catalog 1927 / Atwater Kent Radio Log (1929)

These two Atwater Kent items came together so, as always, I kept them that way. The catalog isn't perfect, but is tightly bound and clean. Defects include vertical crease on all pages and cover, but I have ironed it flat and put it in the book press. There's a also a tiny corner missing to lower front cover, a part of mailing label on front has been removed, there's a few faint pencil marks on back, and evidence that something was once pasted on top edge of a two page spread (see photo). The radio card log is interesting -- it's completely filled in on both sides and dated 12-25-29.

This is a clever little gizmo made by Hill Specialities and sold to businesses which had them printed with their own company names. This one is advertising "Margo Fine Wines, Make Every Meal A Banquet!" ad the retailer, Bisceglia Brothers Corporation, Philadelphia. The map can be viewed in micro by using one of the eleven tabs seen at front. To see the whole map and go macro you pull out the cardboard pieces like an accordinan. Folded the map measures 3" x 6-1/4" and can fit a shirt pocket.

This is a very well done booklet, oversized at 9" x 12" with 46 counted pages. The photography is all done in duotone and is truly stunning. The court house and jail designed by H.H. Richardson is considered the apex of Pittsburgh architecture. Richardson designed it in 1883 and it was completed after his death in 1988. Booklet is very nice with one superficial small crease ro lower front corner. Otherwise pristine.

Stunning catalog filled with vintage cars which were the finest of their time and remain so today. Every page is in color printed on quality coated paper. Inside the catalog is a partial list of the cars which were to be sold. The sale doesn't appear to be an auction though, as they called it an exhibition sale. The oldest cars on the partial list were a 1929 Cadillac Dual Cowl Paeton and a 1929 Duesenberg J. Bohman & Schwartz Berline. The catalog measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 14 lavish pages.

Small hard cover vistors' guide which sports two large maps -- one in black and white of 1876 Philadelphia and the other a colorful panorama of the grounds of the exhibition. Both maps are good sized -- see photo of the fairgrounds map in full color below. What I love about this particular book is the inscription written by the owner who actually went to see the spectacle. In pencil she wrote, "Mother and Grace visited the exposition in July, 1876. Keep it 'til 1976!" There's also a small newspaper about the Smithsonian's effort to create a new centennial in 1976! The good news is nobody threw...

Photograph First Communion Boy White Bows at Neck and Arm. (1938)

This is a very handsome photograph. I know the date was May 1, 1938 as written on the back of the front cover of the folder. What puzzled me a bit was the large white bows at the yougn boy's neck and arm, plus a boutonniere. But I did some research and found that arm bows were not unusual. The boy holds his missal and rosary, but the viewer's eye catches the cute little person beside him -- all dressed up for the big day and clutching a tiny purse. This is a large and very pretty trade card which involves three different entities. Dr. McClanes came up with the "celebrated liver pills" which supposedly cured sick headache, billiousness, torpid liver, dyspepsia, malaria constiveness, impure blood, poor appetite, and nervousness. The Fleming Brothers were the next ones in when they began prepared the pills in Pittsburg. The cards then went to any druggist who would like to have his name on the back, as is the case here. This one was was W.R. Ryan of Cleveland, Ohio. The card measures 3-3/4" x 5-3/4 and is clean and nice on both sides.

This is an interesting look at community rehabilitation. The large booklet takes the reader on a stroll to see "a mixed-use urban district integrating arts, education, commerce and residences, providing a convenient and safe main street environment." Twelve properties on North Avenue and Federal Street were the two thoroughfares to determine Garden Square North. There's also a wonderful card mapping it all out including the buildings and can even be glued to be more dimensional. The booklet measures 11" x 12-1/4" and is clean and tightly bound.
