An uncommon item, published in tandem with the opening of the dark opera, Alice, which is based on Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The lyrics probe not the story as much as how it pertains to its author. Was not intended for children. Inside front cover (see photo two) is a small drawing signed by its artist. I can't decipher the first namel, but I do believe the last name is Zinn. I immediately thought of David Zinn who does have a history with the Thalia Theatre, but I can't say for sure that this is right. Research shows no account of him having anything to do with the set design for ... View More...

If you are interested in Pennsylvania German genealogy this magazine is a goldmine. I have more (a fairly good sized stack), so if there's one you're seeking use the contact button and I'll see what I have. This one has an especially attractive cover which depicts a Pennsylvania Dutch Virgin Mary. Contents include a study of a Pennsylvania German broadside from the 18th & 19th centuries entitled "A Sorrowful Song About A Terrible Murder"; Pennsylvania church history; a study of a document which sought a pastor in 1731; the career of Lutheran minister, Johann Valentin Krafft; and the ordination... This is a small but comprehensive catalog of German Orders and Decoration from 1800 to 1945. It measures 4" x 5-3/4" and has 304 pages. Though it is written in German, it's not hard to use because each drawing is numbered to match the name of the item in German. There are a total of 456 items in all. I bought quite a few of these not long ago, all different, so if you are interested in a different small katalog from Germany let me know and I'll see if I have it. View More...

These three items came together, including the mat for the faksimile illuminated papers. That item measures 8-1/2" x 12-1/2" outside the "frame" and 10-1/2" x 14" inside it. The illuminations include six pages which show the actual age spots and marks. The main item is perhaps the exhibition catalog showing treasured books from the Saxton State Library which opened in Dresden in 1556. During WWII many rare books and incunabula were hidden in 18 castles. The catalog measures 5-1/2" x9" and has 20 pages in ENGLISH. The Belser booklet is written in GERMAN. I bought this booklet years ago in Cleveland Heights, but was not sure where it came from originally ,so back into the closet it went several times. But this time my research answered the question of location. It's a student publication written and published at Cleveland Heights High School. There are stark black and white drawings and a few black and white photos. The students grasped both the history and the emotion of the horror. Many wrote with the voice of the children but others told the story of the adults who lost their lives too. The booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11" with 46 pages and ea... View More...
Three tiny pin holes and remnants of two pieces of tape to upper corners are all that mar this original piece of WWII propaganda issued on July 21, 1944 following a radio speech at 1 a.m. that morning proclaiming the peace movement by leading German generals. I was able to find a translation which is the white page included with the photo. The reverse side of the original has a section which translates thus: "What This Means To You -- you know what the German Generals knew for weeks - that Germany has lost the war. The Peace Government may or may not be smashed, but no one can change the basic... View More...

What makes this brochure and map interesting is the pink printing inside the front and back covers announcing the XIth Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany in 1936. Most of these brochures are from 1937, so I was surprised to see it. The 1936 Games were very controversial given the atmosphere in Germany at that time. It's still often referred to as Hitler's Olympics. The brochure measures 4" x 9" and opens to become three times as big as when closed. There are many black and white photographs, plus the usual sort of information for tourists in 32 pages. There is also an exceptionally nice crisp ma... View More...
Very nice clean travel brochure written in the FRENCH LANGUAGE. No publishing date, but the wraparound art to covers by Ernst Liebermann depict a scene from the early 1900's. This is a well-designed tourist guide to the town, castle, and environs of Heidelberg. The guide is in ENGLISH and is a nice handy size at 4-1/2" x 7" with 39 pages, plus ads at back and a crisp color map inside the back cover. There's no need for an additional map because this one folds out and is quite large. There are also nice full page black and while photographs printed on quality coated paper. Good travel collectible from "the loveliest town in Germany." View More...
These little German calendars are exquisitely rendered -- the art is so charming. It's in the GERMAN LANGUAGE, but is so pleasing to the eye that art trumps comprehensiion for non-German speakers. It's a small, very thin book which measures 5-1/2"x7-3/4" and is illustrated with tiny illustrations throughout. The pages aren;t numbered, but I counted 22. View More...

What a pretty card this is. The box which contains the birthday greeting is actually a card pasted on the larger one, including the green bow. Inside the oval is inserted a beautiful touch of mother of pearl. The card is also nicely embossed at decorative corners and at the "frame" around the mother of pearl oval. There are two penciled names on the back, but they could be easily erased. Though card is not dated or postmarked, it's likely from the early 1900's due to the fact that it was printed in Germany. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve. View More...
Beautiful church located in Cologne, the fourth largest city in Germany. It was sent July 3, 1927 postmarked Cologne and addressed to Antoinetta Krebs of Cleveland, Ohio. The message read: Dear Tonie, Well, we are on the last leg of our journey. While out sightseeing this afternoon I saw a sign Dr. Krebbs. So you see, you haven't the only one in your family. Go to Berlin in the morning to sail the 9th of August and hope to be home on the 20th." Card is clean and crisp with sharp corners. Only a tiny bit of wear to upper right and lower left tips. Card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve... View More...
Such a charming trio -- a pianist, a violinist, and perhaps a vocalist, all dressed beautifully. The card is clean and nice, but does show a 1" scratch with a small tributary at the top edge on into the pianist's hair. Card appears to have been postmarked in Germany and is not written in English. Card is lovely and will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve. View More...
Very interesting how one person got four postcard greetings from four different well-wishers with cards that are variations of the same design -- yet here they are. All four are glossy as per design and very clean and attractive. Two have stamps on the back, but only one was postmarked which is how I found the date. The other two have messages written on the divided back, but no postage. The recipient was Josephine Hughes of Mansfield, Ohio. Each card will arrive in its own brand new plastic sleeve. View More...
Crisp as new postcard which has not been used. We know it's a real tinted photo as it shows the NBC company logo at the space for the postage stamp. Unfortunately, there are no dates available for NBC, so no clues to age. The card has not been used postally, but it does show a message in German on the opposite side of the divided back and the date 11/11/20. The subject is very pretty in evening clothes. Card will arrive in plastic sleeve. View More...
