This is a cool thing, whether you are an alum yourself or are looking for an ancestor who was a member. Looks like this was quite a bash, as brothers descended on the Hotel Hollendan for a five day gala -- December 27th to the 31st. It's interesting to note that Zeta Beta Tau was the first Jewish fraternity in the U.S.. It's not sectarian anymore, but it still was at the time of this event. The brochure measures 5-1/2"x8" and pulls out to reveal five printed page on the front and five on the back. Members came from City College of New York, Columbia, Pennsylvania. It's unsuual to find a whole set of these early journals, but here we have them. Were it not for the yapped edges, which protect the contents well, but themselves tear and fall off, or get trimmed off by the owner after they run amok, these would be incredibly good. As it is, there has been some trimming and there are some edge tears, but the journals are clean and nice inside and are tightly bound. One contains photographs, the others do not. Topics include, but are not limited to: Origin and Significance of Pennsylvania Barn Symbols (photos); Quakers & the Shawnee Indians at Wapakoneta; the ... View more info

Though not as well known as Godey's, Arthur's magazine was a hit in its day. This issue is from May,1875 and is clean and tightly bound. There is a small loss of paper at the bottom of the spine and a light stain from moisture to the bottom front corner and a light one also to bottom corner at a few pages in the back. Several pages of fashions are found at the front of the magazine, but Arthur's seemed to feel its readership was worthy of more intellectual material as well -- the first article is about South Wales. There's also articles about books and libraries, the island of Philae, burrowing... View more info

A little age toning to the cover is the only fault of this program published to commemorate the York Corporation (refrigeration and air conditioning) as recipient of the Army-Navy Production Award conferred on November 23, 1943. The first page indicates that the award is for high achievement in the production of war material. I have several times had programs for the Navy "E" Award, but this one surpasses it because it denotes production for both branches of service and is NOT a permanent award. Companies had to continue maintaining a level production level to be allowed to fly the "E" flag f... View more info

This has to be the oddest trade card ever produced. I've had it for many years and, as you can see, it is part of the montage photo at the top of my website. I have finally decided to let it go even though I have still never figured out why the guy's head's ripped open to expose a rather creepy child inside. The turns of the "paper" look so real it's amazing. The card was issued to sell "the greatest of all blood purifiers." It's larger than average and measures 4-1/2"x6" and has numerous testimonials at back showing how effective it was for curing dyspepsia, biliousness, sick headache and con... View more info
